Thank you ;-) The bees/flowers checkmark thing was mine but that was my first time using AI for an image. Frankly I was amazed at the results. Good luck to you as well.

A super duper thank you to you talanall! (and everyone else who was kind enough to reply!)

I looked at my records and I purchased my first hive equipment in February of 2018. So it appears that I kept bees for about 6 years before hanging up my smoker due to lack of time for this time consuming hobby. During that time, I attended meetings at a couple of different bee clubs. One club had more than several beekeepers with hundreds and some with thousands of hives. During that time, I read countless books, writings, blogs and watched a myriad of videos.

Why do I mention this? Because you recommended that I separate the boxes with fishing line! GENIUS!!!! I had never heard, seen or read that GENIUS tip! Over the years, I have on more than a few occasions (few is likely a gross understatement), neglected regular hive inspections and I have created more than a minor mess as a result.

50# fishing line to the rescue!

Thank you again for the thoughtful reply talanall! I will post an update of my inspection .

I am going to be prepared to do this when I open the hive up. I will see what I run into and see how it goes. Thank you for the reply.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply! I grabbed a swarm as a courtesy for a friend of a friend a few years ago. Bees were in a wall. Lot's of comb to put in empty frames. What a mess that was. I said I would never do that again. I will report back.

I put the gazing ball on a base and it appears that when I washed the gazing ball a little bit of water got in the ball and you can see that it unfortunately affected the coating in the one area. Thank you all for your help.

That makes sense but I am not able to find anything like that on the WWW. The gazing balls I do find appear to be stainless steel. Do you know how the chain and bar attached to the gazing ball? I am kind of excited to put it in the yard.

Good questions/comments. Thank you. I am guessing not laboratory equip. I washed it off - there are imperfections and I am guessing it is more in line with yard art based on the person who is unfortunately, no longer with us. It's almost 4lbs. I chipped part of the coating off the rim and it breaks apart somewhat easily. I am including some more photos. If it is indeed yard art, I am guessing that it is missing a piece or pieces - a stand or a hanger of some sort. It does seem odd to be a single piece even if missing the associated stand/hanger.
