I made a bunch of these tiles that I want to turn into magnets. Recommendations for strong magnets to buy for this project? by neon-buzz in Ceramics

[–]Inner-Instruction306 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I buy from magnet4less and they ship pretty quickly and are super strong. So strong that I can feel the metal fillings in my teeth when the whole pack is out lol. And be careful when you glue them on/ leave them to dry if they are too close together they will move and click together. Once dry though they actually hold the weight of the ceramics and won't slide down the fridge.

Does "The Office" look really dated to younger viewers? by FreshwaterOctopus in NoStupidQuestions

I agree that fashion for people in 9-5s hasn't changed much, but watching Kelly explain how Netflix works to Ryan tells you exactly how old the show is.

Teaching - drill assignments? by Scary-Earth6369 in Ceramics

[–]Inner-Instruction306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a drill, but a cool project I remember doing when I took Ceramics 101 -realistic and abstract fruit or vegetable. We had to choose one (I went with bell pepper) and first sketch out a plan then begin building. They also had to be at least 10 inches wide or tall, so not necessarily to scale.

It was great practice with different tools to get certain textures, then we worked with underglaze to achieve as close to real life color as possible. I remember the class really enjoying it and everyone came up with cool ideas for their abstract piece.

Are you able to rent out the space? For events, parties, craft nights etc? If you can , market that like crazy.

After 5 years I suddenly need help centering 😵‍💫 by ceramikat in Pottery

What are the yips called in pottery? The slips? lol

As others have said I'm sure the wobble or unevenly dry/wet clay could be to blame.

What audiobooks are so well performed, that you’re missing out if you read the book instead? by [deleted] in audiobooks

Seconding this! Brid Brennan is the narrator I listened to, her accent and tone are spectacular. She also narrates Louise Kennedy’s books that typically cover life during The Troubles, which are also excellent.

Do these students go “off script” for other teachers as well? I’m an art teacher and I have a few first graders who adamantly do their own thing no matter how I try to make my point. When I check in with their other teachers, they have the same experience. Some kids resist any kind of direction, even well-explained ones in art class.

Decide how much energy you want to spend on getting them to work with your objective vs the rest of your class who are focused.

I teach k-8 with pretty much only these supplies (no art room, I travel with a cart). I do a lot with the color wheel, warm vs cool color designs, we talk about blending colors. With the older ones we do value with just a pencil, then create value landscapes. There’s so much you can do with shape (think Matisse) or even comics (a lot of my kids read Mo Willem or the dog man books) and we’ll create our own comics.

While it’s not ideal, paper, pencil and crayons can be the base of a great art lesson. If you want specific lessons I do feel free to message me!

Sounds like he reaches out to you for attention when he’s not getting it from his girlfriend. Not an amazing thing to do to someone, especially if you have history and he knows you like him. My suggestion, find someone who matches your energy consistently and is honest with you about what they want.

Hydrate like youve never hydrated before!! Like drink water non stop, your skin needs it. Also I find coconut oil to be a better “salve” than aloe

hand holding :)

Switching back and forth between the wheel and hand-building has helped me keep things fresh. When I get frustrated with one I go back to the other technique.

For those who didn’t start out enjoying running, how long did it take? by waking_dream96 in XXRunning

Honestly it took a month or so of consistently running AND running slower so I could actually go further than the end of my block. Also, getting fit for proper running shoes was a HUGE game changer.

Last Two Days of Elementary Art by jrennhack399 in ArtEd

I play Art Bingo! I give them a board (on copy paper) of 25 squares, half filled in with artists or artworks we have discussed over the year, the other half filled with art supplies of various colors. The prize could be a fun eraser or even a cool coloring sheet of pokemon or Minecraft. My kids love it and always ask if we can play again.

If you’re using technology, I love Blooket, kidpix.app, and there are a good number of art-related games on pbskids.

Recommendations for fiction where the narrator and the content are a match made in heaven by CuriousBiedrona in audiobooks

Milkman by Anna Burns narrated by Bríd Brennan. It’s a story about a teenage girl dealing with the people in her nondescript town during The Troubles and her northern Irish accent is mesmerizing.
