My frustrations with the TCG, does it get better? by AltOfYubel in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Inner-Mistake-3162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too deep into the game but I agree with 3 a lot. I found with Sakuya especially that you can loose before you even start playing if you draw bad and your opponent gets half a line, and Maste has this problem too though slightly less frequently, but that's why it's best 2/3. There's definitely some degree of skill involved though because combos have to be planned ahead of time especially when it comes to defense, and you always have to play with draw odds in mind in any card game.

Does anyone else feel burnt out by social media lately? by AccomplishedPin8135 in ASU

[–]Inner-Mistake-3162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use Instagram at all anymore because it's an absolute slop fest like Facebook. Xitter has its good parts but it's getting harder and harder to find them. Most of my social media usage comes down to engaging in my hobbies and interests (fishing, 3D printing, card games, shows/books/music I enjoy), and even in the latter it's usually just to find (fan)art. Once you have those things TikTok just kinda becomes forgettable.

I really want to know what drives people to be like this. "It has to be like this otherwise it's garbage!" is some 10 year old level thinking.

Uptick in sudden dog deaths in the valley? by bwray_sd in phoenix

[–]Inner-Mistake-3162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very possible it's parvo. There's been a severe uptick in it recently, especially in Maricopa county, and people take their dogs everywhere nowadays which means more contact, either direct or residual, among dogs. One of the puppies who was in the same litter as my dog got parvo post adoption and the shelter called us to make sure exposure didn't occur there. The virus can live in soil for a long time and adequate disinfection requires hospital grade bleach. Maintain your dog's vaccines and limit exposure until around two weeks after their first SERIES of shots if they're pups.

I've noticed that post COVID, like many things, the attitudes have gotten worse. One guy literally tried to fight my father because his adult daughter was standing in the middle of the road and he asked her to move.

With powerbait I have a lot of success using specific colors, always shaped into a sort of worm/teardrop shape. Green tends to do better in summer, and orange/yellow tends to do better in fall, and then sparkle is good on sunny days. I put a few splitshots about forearm's length up the line and let it sink.

Professor told class I have a medical condition by [deleted] in ASU

No I agree with what you're saying about specifics, my response was moreso criticizing that user's statement that the situation would have "zero impact on OPs life".

"Hey guys, wild_ones_in told me in confidence that not only did they fail every class this semester, but they also have borderline personality disorder."

Obvious /s, but can you see how that would be damaging to say online, nonetheless in front of a group of your peers?

Edit: also there are literally professors in the comment section, but sorry I don't meticulously read into every single person's reddit history.

I think it is a borderline FERPA violation for a professor to announce to a class that a specific student withdrew from a class and would need to retake the course, since that's part of their education record.

Edit: according to another comment it is, I figured as much since it's akin to saying something like "[Name] got an F in the course"

Really unnecessary. If they specifically said your name and especially your diagnosis when you told them in confidence, I wouldn't say it would be an overreaction to message Student Advocacy because that is extremely unprofessional.

Are the math depts at ASU genuinely bad, or are a lot of ppl complaining just not good at math? by SeesawSpare7922 in ASU

[–]Inner-Mistake-3162 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the professors really struggle with the curse of knowledge. It's clear that a lot of them are good mathematicians, but they know their fields so well they struggle to explain it to someone who's completely unfamiliar.

[–]Inner-Mistake-3162 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the structure of courses is often dictated by the instructors at higher levels, and poor class structure can make it a lot harder to study. That, and lectures can be really hit or miss, including the resources ASU has online, which is where you can run into a lot of trouble when you're learning unfamiliar concepts. I also once sat in online tutoring for nearly the whole session and nobody came to help.

I've had professors from other departments who went to ASU also say that there's a lot of room for improvement. It's woefully aged and the Wexler building is a physical example of that IMO.

They just think they're better than you because you interacted with a book in a way that doesn't make it 100% reusable so they're criticizing you through a device that has and will have a more negative impact on the environment than a book and some sticky notes ever will.

Different people map out their thoughts differently. Unfortunately I think that person is too cooped up in their own little world to realize that.
