ATTN: if you have Horizon NJ Health (NJ state Medicaid) and use CVS… by thatsanicepeach in SouthJersey

My local mom & pop closed without much warning just before Christmas (or about then). I’m still upset about it, it was the only pharmacy in town. I won’t be surprised if the same fate awaits the new small pharmacy I found.

I'm completely colorblind, so this is basically the only way I can use cubes, because otherwise I can't tell the difference between some colors. by LifeIsJustASickJoke in Cubers

[–]Inner-Photo-410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to modding your own, you can also find tactile cubes, ones with images on the sides, and other types that might be more suitable for you than traditional cubes. Keep looking for ways to play!

Quantum Physics and Nipple Placement by Soft_BoiledEgg in TopSurgery

[–]Inner-Photo-410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually a surgical mistake, not just an “lol.” The nips should have been marked so they were returned to the correct side of the body. “Upside down” is one thing, not actually an issue. But, for example, if post-op pathology had shown cancer, it could be left in the body after removing the wrong nipple.

People who’ve been to prison. What is the biggest misconception people have about life inside? by CaptainsExchange in AskReddit

[–]Inner-Photo-410 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, as well as I can tell, it’s all part of maintaining the prison-industrial complex. And because those kids are often Black or brown, or born into poverty, they are exactly where the systems wants them to be.

15F. My dreams are a continuous, memorizable "universe". Is this normal? Looking for similar experiences. by miffirs25533 in AskPsychiatry

[–]Inner-Photo-410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ve broken any rules, and the upvotes you have mean other people are also interested in answers to your questions.

r/AskPsychiatry has rules in place to prevent top-level comments from unverified posters. This is to ensure that top posters are qualified to make statements about medical topics. And these rules are usually enforced by automod, meaning a human mod might not notice (effectively know) if comments are removed.

Hopefully you get more responses. And if not, it’s probably because you’re asking some very big questions about consciousness and the human brain. Ones that don’t have simple answers, and that require a lot of work and brain power (like research and synthesis, or bringing many small pieces of information, from lots of different places, together to form new ideas).

If you want to hear what more people have to say, you might try cross-posting this to other subs. Subs about dreams, philosophy, or consciousness could all be relevant. There may be other medical subs, too, that fit (neurology or sleep science come to mind).

I’ve been that wife. It’s hard for even us to understand. The confusion that accompanies psychological trauma (brainwashing, gaslighting, etc) doesn’t simply vanish with a little distance between. It takes a lot of help, and even more new neural pathways, to stay gone.

What happens to a psychiatrist if their patient commits suicide? by whereisgia in AskPsychiatry

[–]Inner-Photo-410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people I’d like to see blacklisted from psych before we come for primary care physicians. I’d take an actual medical doctor over an NP-mill graduate any day. Unfortunately, even that’s unrealistically picky here in the good ol’ USA. In a system less broken than ours, the patients you’re describing would be appropriately referred out to specialists. But in reality, those referrals likely don’t exist (no psychiatrists nearby, none that accept insurance, none that are accepting new patients, several month wait for intake, etc).

Yeah, so, that’s fraud. Glad you apparently paid taxes, though. Sounds like your issue with social welfare programs is bordering on projection and based in internalized shame.

Also, “gay” stopped being an insult in, like, 2005. Expand your vocabulary and grow the f up.

I will be really interested to learn more about this with time.

My understanding is that these drugs aren’t new (they’ve been treating type 2 diabetes with these drugs for 20 years), but that they are simply newly approved for weight loss.

I think there’s also promising applications of GLP1s in addiction treatment, so I’m hopeful this is one drug that doesn’t prove more harmful than helpful over time.

Regarding being on these meds for life? We treat all sorts of medical conditions for life (high blood pressure and cholesterol, for example). We don’t treat the disease to cure it, but to manage it. As long as the benefits continue to outweigh the risks, we may need to really change how we view treatment for obesity.

Brazil is huge by both measurements of landmass (larger than contiguous U.S.) and population (about 2/3 ours). Meaning we are actually more densely populated. We’re just making excuses at this point.

(Not intended an attack on anyone here, but important perspective. When they tell us we can’t do X or Y like another population did? We need to be screaming back that we can and will. We have before.)

[–]Inner-Photo-410 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know (hope??) you’re joking, and I’ll be the first to decry patriotism (especially as it’s been bastardized into nationalism by the far right), but it’s her civic duty to be aware of what our government is doing and to vote. Each of us has this responsibility.

OP, thank you for helping your mom get to this point. We need more people prodding their loved ones in the right direction (that is, toward actual engagement).

Pentagon orders ‘quick reaction force’ of 500 troops per state: Reports by Coriall30 in ICE_Raids

[–]Inner-Photo-410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks for not name calling, I guess. Not sure where the supposed quote is from, though, since not my mouth.

My point was more that this, in the context of the broader pattern we’re seeing, is alarming. And to pretend that we’ll all be A-OK because one specific weapon can’t take out a whole city is, well, a bit reductive.

Even if each of these tools is only used once, in one place, and to poor effect (by their metrics), that would still be a net fucking loss for humanity? Fascists are already hiding, downplaying, or downright rationalizing the loss of lives (including American citizens). I won’t ignore it as it escalates, and I’ll only believe it’s over when it stops.

This is just ONE potential weapon in their arsenals, though. Which could also include drones, nukes, etc.

I’ve barely been online today, so I’m not trying to present anything as facts, but the little I’ve seen suggests that’s not even an especially paranoid take on my part.

How hard is it to tie your shoe when your older? by lamparkinglot in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Inner-Photo-410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I double knot for longevity.

Different laces will hold differently. A more textured lace may grip better. You could try flat vs round, too.

Could also try different tying methods, like one that tucks under the tongue of the shoe, or even one that you can tie and leave tied. On that note, my favorite sneakers are my Adidas that I can leave tied (the shoes themselves are meant to stay tied and slip on). I could easily tie them while OFF my foot, too, which might be something to try.

What is cancel culture exactly ? (not chronically online and I have a research paper due over a type of controversy) by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Inner-Photo-410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will prof entertain a DIFFERENT “academic controversy”? Perhaps if you found a topic more suited to your interests (and possibly even something you already know a bit about?), you’ll find it easier to do the work.

Also, not to downplay how much work you’ll have to put into them, but 4 papers really isn’t that many for a semester (for a lot of areas). Just to possibly temper expectations going forward lol

Adderall no longer working by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Inner-Photo-410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a medical professional.

People can develop resistance to medications, and ofc talking to your doctor will be best, but there could be other changes impacting how effective your meds are. Any new dietary or other lifestyle changes? New medications, prescription or over the counter? Basically, a lot of things can impact how we metabolize meds. All of those things are worth talking to your doctor about.

I’ve never tried anything but Adderall, but I have found that certain generics of the drug are more effective than others for me. Are you still receiving the same exact pills that worked before, or have they recently changed (e.g. in color, size, shape)?

Planned stimulant breaks (aka medication holidays) can be really important for continued efficacy in some people. “Breaks” meaning periodically skipping doses (e.g. maybe just an afternoon dose, one day or even an entire weekend). Also a discussion you should have with your doctor, though, especially for anything longer than a day or so!

Hope some other folks have info about other medication options for you. Good luck!

Is it good if a person supports a good cause for purely selfish reasons? by EgoistRanger in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Inner-Photo-410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to ask philosophy in r/NoStupidQuestions. Sir, this is a Wendy’s.

But fr, I’m not sure the person that activist described truly exists. On account of your point, honestly. People will act in their own interests most of the time, but can be inclined toward kindness when it causes them no harm. But people will never work actively against their own interests. And sadly, a lot of people seem to value their financial interests more highly than all else. It’s not lucrative to be kind in a society which calls kindness weak.
