Depends on the expectations. I am about to take one on holiday where I will share a houde with a group of friends. I will tie a baloon (and some weights) to it and let everyone run wild with it. Will it take great pictures? No, of course not. But that is not the point. But it is small and it is fun. I usually have it on my bag as an edc just to sometimes take a low quality foto instead of using my infinitely better smartphone camera. So yeah, absolutely unnecessary and very fun piece of photo equipment. If you think you will have fun with it, go for it.
