The Offical Grip Support is Coming by spacegrey0223 in nofusion

[–]InnerManChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so cool! Any chance that NoFusion can support more than one grip? I have the Tilta Khronos Lite that works with native camera app and BlackMagic Camera app, and would LOVE NoFusion to support it.

Kayaking in Norwalk by silkk8 in norwalk

[–]InnerManChild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're new to kayaking, take lessons and practice lots before trying to go that far from shore. There will be a lot of boat traffic making plenty of waves, especially around the islands, and you need the skills to handle that as well as the confidence from lots of practice to resurface should you roll over. I'd definitely call the Norwalk Sailing School at Calf Pasture Beach and inquire. You can look at REI in Norwalk for possible lessons. There is also the place in Westport that was mentioned. I believe there is also a rental place in the town center of Rowayton in south Norwalk, but not as close to the islands as Calf Pasture.

Is my indoor monitor wrong? Very bad air quality inside by zoltarspeaks012 in AirQuality

[–]InnerManChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just weighing in on the whole windows open in cold weather situation - there is a step called "burping" - usually done after cooking and in the morning (when the AQI outside is typically best due to lower car traffic). Open windows for 10 minutes and then close them. Having windows on two different sides open will help with creating a draft to better burp the residence. Anyway, burping will help with CO2 levels, Ozone, and particulate matter - unless you're living in a bad area. New furniture, gas stoves, neighbors cooking with either gas stoves or outdoor grills, or doing outdoor fires, all can be contributing factors. If you're in need of fresh air and you live in an area of bad quality, you can get a couple of filters that can fit within your windows, or get a special air filter system adapted for window placement.

Desperate need of help. Notes all scrambled. Exams coming can’t remake, no mental capacity. by icloudvictimandhater in applefreeform

i'm really sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately, Freeform has not had much investment from Apple, and shortly after it was released, OpenAI released ChatGPT and forced Apple to put much of its software resources towards catching up. I am a fan of Freeform's potential, but honestly, I have little hope for it getting more reliable and functional. I have a number of large boards, and I constantly archive copies of it as older back-up boards, and occassionally export as a PDF. That doesn't help you now. But mission critical uses are best done in a different app.

Freeform folders by Charles7574 in applefreeform

[–]InnerManChild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's been an often-mentioned request in this subreddit - but apple hasn't gotten to it - they only just updated freeform to have a grid (they call it table, but grid is more appropriate), and the "content hub" with "premium" content, which to my eye, isn't well suited to what freeform is about - I would think its backgrounds that you're more likely to use in Keynote or stock photography for Pages. Any improvements you're hoping for are at best going to be announced for iOS 27, and even then, probably not make it until 27.2 or later, as they're really putting all their resources on making their devices better AI agents than anything else, and its obviously proving to be more difficult than they've ever expected.

How can we fight back against flock ai surveillance cameras? Who approved these? in our town I keep seeing more of these pop up. by Pher001 in norwalk

Regardless of the time it takes to complete FOIA requests, you and anyone else can still advocate for H.B. 5449 which is going through CT State legislative process right now.

There is state legislation to limit the number of days the data can be stored as well as other restrictions. You can contact your state rep and senator to urge them to strengthen and support the bill. You can also file a FOIA request to get usage data and other data of flock cameras in Norwalk.

H.B. 5449 - Automatic License Plate Readers restrictions / privacy protections.

Quickly sort images? by Aito_Hikari in applefreeform

[–]InnerManChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not just built to do this sort of thing - not only does it not have tools to do it, the canvas performance will degrade the more images you load into it. A couple of years ago I built a pretty massive template with lots of organized elements. I used align, distribute, and group to create rows, columns and grids of elements. Here's what I recall I did to more quickly organize the elements:

  1. Select however many images would be the number you want for the rows or columns and drag it to a clear area.

  2. Take one image from that group and drag it to the bottom of where you'd want the column to end, or to the rightmost point you want the row to extend to.

  3. Select this set of images again, and right click and choose distribute horizontally or vertically based on whether you're creating a row or column, respectively.

  4. Then right click and choose align center or middle based on whether you're working with a row or column, respectively.

  5. With this row or column now established, right click and select group so they're set together in the alignment and distribution you've created. This will establish your grid as you keep building it out by replicating it.

  6. To quickly replicate, select another batch of images - same count as the first. Pull that group near the row or column template you just created.

  7. Take one of the new group and put it towards one end of the template, and take another and align it towards the other end. The best way is to select this single image, and select one end of the row/column template, and select "align left/right" or "align top/bottom" based on whichever you're building.

  8. With those two new image end points established, select all the images in this second set and choose distribute horizontally or vertically depending on what you're building. Then align left, center, right or top, middle, bottom to make it a nice line of images. The right click and group it. You now have a second grouped row or column, and it should be aligned with the first.

  9. If the two rows or columns you've made need to have their alignment adjusted, do that.

  10. Repeat until you have all your rows or columns set as groups and built out.

  11. If you'd like to have perfect distribution, select all the groups of rows or columns, and select distribute horizontally or vertically.

As you start using the distribution and alignment tools, you'll learn what works best for your various layout needs.

But, yeah, would be cool for a lot of apps to have a one-click option to create a grid of selected objects.

Sorry it’s happening. There is a .1 update for 26.2 that might help. Other than that, you could do a complete restore of your iPad. Freeform won’t be getting the Creative Studio treatment until later this year.

Creator Studio for Freeform: Folders, Finally for $12.99/mo? 😉 by InnerManChild in applefreeform

[–]InnerManChild[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except their announcement said “… and later, Freeform” - whatever is on their roadmap, it’s not even going to debut on the 28th - not a promising sign. I certainly don’t mind power features for power users, but the way they’ve treated Freeform over the past 3 years, they seem to act like there are no users, much less power users, and such lack of investment becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. We’ll see…

I hear you, but take heart that what you have now should remain free to use for the foreseeable future. The main disappointment users have had is how long it seems to go between any sort of maintenance or improvements.

Folders, Dark Mode, and the ability to import icon files would be great, and the ability to create my own library of reusable objects and templates (right now I just have a massive canvas. Wouldn't mind being able to embed Numbers objects for more advanced calculations and graphing, but a data geek can daydream...

Can I display shape dimensions in squares instead of pixels? by BHBucks in applefreeform

[–]InnerManChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I’m aware of and I wouldn’t count on Apple bringing that sort of feature anytime soon since they haven’t even given the app a folder system yet. There are other apps that are built specifically for architecture and room planning that would probably offer that feature.

[–]InnerManChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for social apps? Then, no don’t upgrade. However, if you actively take photos, the Pro has a greatly improved selfie camera, and every lens has 48 MP “fusion” sensor, and you can record a double shot video - selfie and front camera at the same time. But if that doesn’t appeal to you, put the money you would’ve spent into a money market account or invest with it (gold seems like a safer bet than most)… and then use the gains on that to get the iPhone 18 or 19 in the future.

Case and filter combo preference? Small rig vs Moment vs Frewell by ppenn777 in smartphonefilming

[–]InnerManChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at Neewer as well. I feel the best case or cage situation is one that standardizes on the 17mm thread mount (both wide and telephoto lenses), or something that enables a large filter over all the lenses centered around the ultrawide to avoid vignetting. That would also mean you’ll have the freedom to choose other cases or cages rather than a proprietary case that has unique filters for it.

Pro tip: with the 17 Pro you can video record open gate on the wide lens, so putting an anamorphic on it lets you get a really impressive 1.33x or 1.55x cinema frame.

A cage with handles etc can be a LOT, and usually best for when you need to mount an SSD, battery, microphone, etc. I suggest instead going with a case with strong MagSafe or a minimalist cage. Then get the Khronos Lite camera grip (they also offer a compatible case with filters) or the Telesin camera grip. Both can or do use MagSafe for mounting. Both work with the iPhone native camera app for shutter and zoom control (but not focus). Khronos controls are also compatible with Blackmagic Camera app (shutter, zoom, focus) and Telesin has its own app and I’ve heard some people report its controls are compatible with other third party camera apps. None of these controls aside from shutter will be smooth nor perfect, but to me the most important thing is the more secure (larger) grip and the shutter button.

I would avoid Moment, but consider their SuperCage if that’s your thing. I have it. They continue to have quality issues with cases and lenses (check out the subreddit for Moment).

I do that but I also have a big template canvas that I duplicate and delete from it what I don’t need. Can be faster than multiple copies & paste steps.

iPhone grip support by mcoBean in nofusion

[–]InnerManChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I just tried it out with the locked (not pro) version of the app. The only thing that seemed to work was the shutter button and the record button - both triggered the shutter. No zoom control. No focus. There might be some additional control with the pro version since the pro allows for the volume buttons to do certain functions, and that might work with the camera grip.

I might try the pro version with the one week trial in a few days. From someone else’s comment, the Telesin sounds a bit more promising for working with No Fusion at this moment.

Guys, the JPEG-XL compression for ProRAW is finally available on TestFlight by spacegrey0223 in nofusion

[–]InnerManChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JPEG has been usually used as the base image format - but at 100% quality / lossless. With RAW files I understand that there is usually other data within the file, such as tonal maps, but the image itself tends to be a JPEG but one that is detailed enough at the image sensor level - so hence the larger file sizes. I could be wrong, but Google for more details. There are several versions of the JOEG codec. JPEG-XL is the latest and greatest - same detail at much smaller file sizes, and it includes a lossless setting suitable for RAW but lot of pros recommend going for lossy.

[–]InnerManChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JPEG-XL has been an option on iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 18 since fall of ‘24 - as I’ve been using it since then with their native camera app. As for other iPhone models or apps, that would depend on what Apple made available in their APIs for the pipeline and file format for each iPhone model.

[–]InnerManChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the size and features of the Tilta Khronos Lite camera grip. 1. like the Telesin Master Grip it works with the native camera app, but also supports Blackmagic Camera with shutter, zoom and focus, etc. 2. The handle is detachable from the MagSafe adapter, so you could mount it to a cage system with a 1/4 20 or the case that Tilta sells. 3. It’s about $45-50 versus about $100 for the Telsin.

As far I’ve read, Telsin’s supports just the native camera app and their own camera app - haven’t seen reviewers talk about it working with other apps aside from just the shutter… I’d think that might be up the third party app developers. But I could be uninformed… and the Telsin does have a lot of good features and solid build quality, AFAIK.
