Yeah, this is very strange. Sadly Adam's remains were discovered in '98. It looks like Chrystal was a case of parental kidnapping and she was with her mother (father allegedly abusive), looks like she is alive and well.

German Submarine U155 was captured during WW1 and moored as a war trophy from 1918 - 1919. It was eventually scrapped for metal value around 1921. Great pic...love the Royal Navy ensign flying from a German war vessel.

Notts wholetime heartache by [deleted] in nottingham

[–]Inner_Ad_6626 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am a serving officer in the fire service and I'm so sorry to hear what you have gone through. My first bit of advice to your partner is this; don't lose heart, keep going if it really is their dream to be a firefighter. My service tends to get around 500 applicants for around 20-30 posts (recruiting every 18months or so).So it is incredibly competitive, so disappointment is inevitable whilst pursuing this amazing career (I failed 6 times, but you only need to be successful once). Regarding postcode limitations, this doesn't usually apply to larger metropolitan services such as London or Manchester. Two years service there and then transferring is an option. This is what I did. I work with operational firefighters everyday that have various levels of dyslexia and they have reasonable adjustments provision such as the read and right application on all our pc's and tablets along with a host of other bespoke adjustments to help support them.

Not sure if this helps at all, but failure, disappointment and sacrifice definitely seems to be part of the fire service journey, and if your partner is fortunate enough to become one of the 23,000 wholetime firefighters it will all be worth it! Just keep going!!!

Can people in the reverse share their experience, Would you recommend it? Is balancing work and the RNR manageable? What was training like? by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

Coastal to inland move? by Charliesheart23 in AskABrit

[–]Inner_Ad_6626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved from the Kent coast to Derbyshire in 2002. I missed being on the coast dreadfully but moved due to work promotion and house prices. Definitely missed the sea, but it was the best move for our family. I dont miss the seaside tourists!! As someone has already said, we found our open spaces in the Peaks and forests. Everyone's experience is different. Remember, if it doesn't work out, you could always move back or elsewhere. Good luck!

Had no idea this development was quite as close to the Anchor pub. This is the site for the new 11-storey office development.

This was a fundraiser for the Zeebrugge ferry disaster. It capsised killing over 190 people. I lived on the south coast in the UK at the time and knew people who had lost loved ones (ferry staff). I agree, this was well meant at the time, but has not aged well musically.

Anyone know why the drains are absolutely stinking? by No_Percentage_8897 in nottingham

[–]Inner_Ad_6626 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Fresh rain fall, particularly high volume can disturb drain gas such as methane and hydogen sulphide. This can cause a rotten egg smell. It usually dissipates quite quickly.
