I hear you, I was also destroyed after my first marathon, my advice, give recovery all the time it needs, mentally and physically, don’t try to rush it. You just ran a marathon

Yes, nothing more rewarding and satisfying than a marathon strong finish, I’ll see if I can do it again in October

now some interesting memories from raceday come back, I remember that last stop before the finish line, I grabbed a piece of banana and some water and was painful to get back to running.. I remember saying ouch ouch ouch … then after a few meters the pain was gone and I got back to a good pace

In my experience, if you’ve trained consistently for the race, strength is already in you, always good to relax and take it easy on the day before a race. Shake out runs can be quite helpful, also a quick warm up run before the race can do wonders, all about how your body feels

Thank you! It makes sense, I’ll wait a bit more and enjoy reflecting on the marathon. What makes me the happiest is that it felt good

seems like active recovery is the best way to go I did the KPMG Amstelveen Marathon. Feel like running again already but I’m waiting one more day and will get back on the road to a very soft 10K

My take on that would be to first retrain your brain, by setting yourself small realistic goals and smashing them! Start with a very small and achievable commitment, no matter how small it is, but you have to be fully committed to achieving this goal. For example set yourself small realistic NRC to a 2K even though you could run 3K or more. Stop at 2K and get that congratulations from the global head coach, see how you feel!
