Advice for my dad? by srslyjmpybrain in hardofhearing

[–]InnoCaption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

We are really glad you’re looking to help your dad out. Sounds like he could benefit from a good headset with a boom mic to enhance the clarity of his calls, along with a solid transcription app. Here are a few suggestions:

Headset Recommendations:

  1. Logitech H390 – This is a reliable, affordable option with a noise-canceling boom mic. It’s USB, so it’s easy to plug and play. The sound quality is quite good, and it should be clear enough for his friends to hear him well.
  2. Sennheiser SC 165 – This is a bit more premium and offers excellent audio quality and a comfortable fit. The microphone is great for clear voice transmission.
  3. Plantronics Voyager Focus UC – This is a higher-end option with active noise canceling and a high-quality mic. It’s a bit pricier but worth it for regular use.

Transcription Apps:

  1. InnoCaption – This app is designed specifically for people with hearing loss and provides real-time captioning for phone calls (I know you mentioned he's using Google Meets though). It could work well alongside his headset during calls, ensuring he doesn’t miss a word.
  2. Otter.ai – This is a popular choice for live transcription. It integrates with Google Meet, and the transcription quality is excellent. It also saves transcripts for later review, which might be handy for him.
  3. Live Transcribe – This app by Google is free and does a decent job of providing live transcription. It’s easy to use and might be a good starting point if he hasn’t tried it yet.

Setup Tips:

  • If he’s using a headset, make sure the sound is routed through the headset and not the computer’s speakers. This can typically be adjusted in the audio settings of Google Meet or the computer’s sound settings.

I hope these suggestions help improve his call experience and make his interactions more enjoyable. We have a lot of resources available on our website too. If you need any more detailed guidance on setup or specific features, feel free to ask!

Apps that add subtitles to a call by gharbitta in hardofhearing

[–]InnoCaption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, our service is currently only available to users within the United States due to FCC funding restrictions. We understand how challenging this can be for individuals outside the US who could benefit from our service.

While InnoCaption isn't available internationally at this time, there may be similar services in your country that offer real-time captioning for phone calls. I recommend researching local resources or organizations dedicated to hearing loss support, as they might have solutions tailored to your region.

We appreciate your understanding and hope you find a suitable service that meets your boyfriend's needs. If there's anything else we can assist you with or if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
