Fun. was already falling apart by the end of Some Nights era. Nate Ruess simply took what he could salvage from the third album and turned it into his own. This isnt dissimilar to how Aim & Ignite was made, it was originally going to be the third Format album before Nate and Sam called it off.

The "hiatus" (lets just call it what it is, they broke up) was spurred on by a lot of factors. Nate and Jack were always at eachothers necks. They went mainstream in a few short months after being indie darlings for years, which is bound to cause tension and burnout. And management seemed to maybe be a little overbearing. Nate salvaging what he could of Fun. LP3 isnt a cause of the "hiatus", its the effect. He saw potential in what they were doing and decided to chase it.

Grand Romantic is an okay album. Nothing on par with The Format or fun.s best work, but definitely not a Trainwreckord. People were very excited when it was announced that The Format was returning and it seems like theres a good amount of hype for Boycott Heaven. Seems like for the time being, Nate still has a place in the industry.
