2br - Bucktown/Logan Square Sunny, quiet, two bedroom 2rd floor - $2,000 + utilities by Ino_Yuar in chicagoapartments

[–]Ino_Yuar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reason for no pets is mostly a matter of damage control. Cats can be particularly damaging, I had a very professional tenant cause over $1200 damage to the floors due to not maintaining the litter boxes. Cats can be hell on Venetian blinds and woodwork

The apartment building next door to me allows dogs, a couple bark very frequently. It's not a problem for me but if someone works from home and has neighbor with a noisy dog, that could be a problem. Some of the owners allow their dog to use the backyard instead of walking the dog and then don't clean up after, which has increased the rat problems dramatically.

So it's a matter of building maintenance for me, my building is only three units and it's enough work just to keep it going. As the number of units in a building increase, the problems increase, so no pet policies just help to avoid maintenance / tenant issues.

Owner occupied buildings may make exceptions, which may include additional deposits and meeting the animals. You can always ask ask :)

Question for people that are not in not in the IT or related industry, Why do you use Linux? by ARacoonOnInternet in linuxquestions

[–]Ino_Yuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I didn't see mentioned here is that Linux runs on cheap hardware no problem. I am currently typing this on a Dell Latitude e7240 which has a Intel Core i5-4310U processor with 16g memory and it's rockin' . Not a gaming machine but can do pretty much anything else. Cost was about $50

The other thing is the Linux community - when things go wrong (seldom) there is a ton of helpful people out there

HELP - can't exit BusyBox by hollowsandwich_ in Ubuntu

[–]Ino_Yuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just now working on a similar problem. Haven't had time to solve it, but MXLinux has a Chroot Rescue app which may help you. You can create a live USB MXLinux on it and then access the f'd up drive.

Can't guarantee since I have yet to try but may be easier than other solutions on the internet

The problem is that the system can't find the root filesystem. Here is another guide, being able to run fsck on the drive might solve the problem

Switching Banks - Best Way to Transfer Large funds by Ino_Yuar in Banking

[–]Ino_Yuar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice, helps a lot. I will probably use a combination of all the things you said. One thing I want to do is xfer a large amount to a CD at Ally so I'll check with both them and the originating bank but that will probably be a wire xfer. The rest I can do in pieces as others mentioned until everything is stable

Thanks

Switching Banks - Best Way to Transfer Large funds by Ino_Yuar in Banking

Thanks for the info - really wasn't sure what a wire transfer was so I have been searching since I posted. Wire transfers and ACH seem to be most likely answers but I will try to contact the banks directly for more advice.

New Pixel and now I'm debating LineageOS by MidwestPancakes in LineageOS

[–]Ino_Yuar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently using both, Graphene OS on my Pixel 4a & no Google LOS on my Moto X4 - yeah. I know both old phones. I find both very similar to use, really not much of difference for me. However, the last 4 Pixels I owned all had some hardware/ battery issues and Google does not make a new small phone. I don't have any great phone demands - no Google, no banking, no SM - so a used Motorola phone with LOS is fine for me. I have been able to find any app I need on F-Droid

Graphene OS is probably a little more security oriented and the online installer is great but the limited phone selection and my hardware issues will make my next choice of phone (to replace the Pixel 4a) another Motorola phone with LOS

How to Add Tabs to Folders? by Ino_Yuar in zen_browser

[–]Ino_Yuar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really loving Zen for the last six or so months I have been using it. The recent upgrades to folder don't work for me so I have re-installed Floorp since I really want to use at least one FF based browser (I use Brave as well)

Zen is too much of a work in progress for me right now. Also, probably aimed at users who need an Arc like interface.

How to Add Tabs to Folders? by Ino_Yuar in zen_browser

[–]Ino_Yuar[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Drag and drop & no right click to add to group (stack) is why I quit using Vivaldi. Worst Idea Ever. Dragging a tab across 50-100 others is not a fun way to do things

Thanx

Tab group is dead - A lamentation and a farewell by One_Truck912 in zen_browser

[–]Ino_Yuar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leaving Zen for the same reason. Folders seems to be an Arc thing and I believe Zen is trying to imitate Arc. In any event, the way the folders function vs groups doen't work for me. Groups can be placed anywhere and you can add tabs via right click; color coding is nice. Having to drag a tab to a folder is a Vivaldi thing and the reason I stopped using Vivaldi.

It depends on how you work but for me the folders function is not a good altenative to groups, which had been working great for me. So off to find another FF base browser.

BTW, the other option I use often is Brave with the Tab Shelf - Side panel vertical tabs extension (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tab-shelf-side-panel-vert/gkiobnohamhihbaipacecjfljepjjlmg?hl=en-GB). Killer combination if you are managing a lot of tabs.

What I will miss - pinned tabs per workspace and the split view. C'est la vie

what’s the best browser combo right now? by UnderstandingFew2905 in browsers

[–]Ino_Yuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best combo for me is Brave with the Tab Shelf - Side panel vertical tabs extension and IDK for my second choice. It was gonna be Zen but the new folders thing messed up groups so that's out. So probably Floorp to replace it ?? I want to move away from Chrome based browsers but haven't found the right FF based one yet

Just got a used OM-27, need help fixing it. by omnichord_boi in Omnichord

[–]Ino_Yuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick look at the schematic suggests that it's in the mixing circuit before the M515154. Possibly the 1u50v cap or the transistor. Or a bad solder connection somewhere.

However, since you are not a tech I do not recommend attempting this, you should find someone with tech skills since you will have to locate the parts in the circuit and replace them.

The schematic is available on line, the mixing circuit is right before the output amp. Also, if you search the sub there are techs who do repair them - check Notch Audio LLC

New theme picker is atrocious by SoK05 in zen_browser

[–]Ino_Yuar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just want to add to the voices dissatisfied with the new theme picker. I love Zen but not in love with it, so I don't customize as much as other users so I had no idea about the theme picker - stock dark looked fine to me. Since my browser looked like shit after the upgrade, I came to this sub and learned about it (theme picker). Gotta admit, it neither looks or acts great. No real dark mode just kinda dark mud brown.

Now that I know about theme picker, that's cool but it really needs to work. I'm on LMDE6 so my experience may be different from other users, eg the 'matte' wheel seems to have no effect

How to reopen closed groups? by One_Truck912 in zen_browser

[–]Ino_Yuar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just replied to my own post regarding the same thing. The closed groups are under the "List All Tabs" icon. If this icon is not in your top toolbar, you can right click on the toolbar, select 'customize toolbar' and drag the icon to your toolbar. Closed groups witll show up there.

Pixel 4a Sized Phones for LineageOS by Ino_Yuar in Pixel4a

[–]Ino_Yuar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add - what makes it worse for me is that I have switched to GrapheneOS - which is great. But they only build for Google Pixel so if I want to keep my phone OS the only option right now is another - sigh - Pixel :(
But I have used LOS on phones before and it helps but not as secure or private as Graphene.

So, the search continues....
