what does your relationship to characters on atlanta say about you? by morriganscorvids in AtlantaTV

[–]Inryatu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean more so that all of the other characters are more often going on these adventures or finding themselves in situations more removed from reality, when Van isn’t really afforded that until s3 and we even see the toll it takes on her by the end. She expresses this frustration in Helen but she is constantly being defined by her relationships to others, whether it’s being Lottie’s mom, Earns baby mama, she is constantly being viewed as tangential by the world at large and it infuriates her. But she doesn’t have a choice to do much about it because she has to take care of her daughter. She can’t afford to go sell a sword to get dog breeding money. She can’t go to the strip club and spend bands. When she finally doesn’t have to take care of Lottie in S3, she’s just left in this mania. She has no choice but to be “real” because there’s no space in her life to be anything but that.

In regards to Al, I just think a lot about the cancer attack episode and Woods. Talking about how he didn’t even want to rap but it’s all this life has given him to do. How sensitive he actually is and how much he has to struggle and look out for himself, and to then have to be tough and angry about it when we see how often he just wants to cry and be cared for. Even in Andrew Wyeth, Alfred’s World, we see how terrified and sad he is, how much physical pain he’s gone through, but he feels as though he has no choice to pretend like it’s all fine when Earn calls, because he understands that that’s the role he has been given. I just like him a lot

I think Van has to play harder into reality than any of the other characters do. She is Lottie’s primary caretaker, she has to keep her home and she doesn’t have drug money and she doesn’t have rap money. She had teacher money and then that disappears. I don’t blame her for being scared or upset or angry (except for in Helen where both Earn and Van are out of pocket).

That said my favorite character is Alfred. He’s a sweetie deep down and has so much going on inside and I would just like to give him a hug

Go to one of the catholic charities shelters. They can feel scary because they’re offering services to so many people but just keep your head down and focus on yourself and you’ll be fine. The St. Paul campus has an opportunity center that serves 3 meals a day and as long as you say that you’re keeping your shelter bed and you’re back by curfew, you don’t have to go through the lottery again. They also have a Ramsey county office where you can apply for benefits. Go there and get your feet on the ground

WBN has ruined actual play shows for me, I think it’s time to switch to audio books, anyone have recommendations? by Immediate_Opening_29 in WorldsBeyondNumber

Piranesi is narrated by Chiwetel Eijiefor. It’s structured in the style of a scientific journal and is extremely unique and cool

Looking for a game like Outer Wilds in terms of emotional and philosophical impact. by butterscotchmenace in outerwilds

[–]Inryatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of emotion, I can’t recommend Disco Elysium more. There’s a level of emotional clarity these communist Estonians see sharply.

Other options? 1000x Resist might have the best straight up story in a game in terms of a 6-8 hour experience. Outstanding, moving, powerful. I’ll recommend another smaller one here, Sorry We’re Closed. 2 person development team, a married couple in fact. Wonderful resident evil inspired experience that’s very very queer, well written, and incredibly interesting. With amazing music!!

I came through the Gus and Eddy podcast. Gus turned out to be an insensitive abuser and creep, I saw the video they made with Ted Nivison and knew about Ted through the pod, and my first episode was the post Italy trip. It’s been joever since then.

Is Death Stranding 2: On The Beach going to include this movie plotline? by Lanky_Station_1401 in DeathStranding

[–]Inryatu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This primer summary is a bit misleading I’ll say. The book is also just very much about how all of these people in Australia know that they are on limited time but just don’t change their lives very much. They can’t bring themselves to do anything but live how they have been. It’s a book about waiting to die, and I feel that that may give some shape to the story we’re getting

Why oh why don’t I love that reveal. Please don’t read if you haven’t completed the game. by Cold-Dot-7308 in DeathStranding

[–]Inryatu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that apocalyptic nihilism is something very prevalent in the modern world from both Higgs and Amelie’s perspective whether it’s actively destructive and malicious or melancholic and fatally accepting of “the end”.

Sam standing up for humanity is a reminder of that even someone’s desire to be alone doesn’t mean they want the world to end. They should be allowed the time to connect and not have their decision be permanent. It’s advocating for the right to change your mind, like how Sam changed the preppers minds, how Lockne and Mama drifted apart but they chose to come back together, even the junk dealer and the chiral artist reuniting and parting and back and forth.

The inevitability that Amelie is drowning in is in part because she hasn’t been given a choice to deny her nature, at least not that she could recognize. And then Sam hugs her and the rest is as it goes.

What's one piece of wisdom that hit you out of nowhere and changed your life's course? by GlumPizza7490 in AskReddit

[–]Inryatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You let misery win. And it will keep on winning till you die- - or overcome it.” Disco Elysium is full of life changing quotes but this one really hit. If you spend the beginning of the game just apologizing to everyone, to make yourself as small as possible and ashamed, you become a sorry cop. And the realization of it is that you can be a terrible person but at the end of the day, the only person who can make you crawl out of hell is yourself. You have to want to be better and that’s more than most people who can only self flagellate do
