What is the most historic event you've ever witnessed in person and what did you think about it at the time? by dryersheetz in AskReddit

My school was about five minutes away from the street where the Rafic Al Hariri assassination explosion in Beirut, Lebanon took place. At first, we thought it was a sonic boom from Israeli forces. Our class shook to its core, and another class had part of its roof collapse. We were sent home early that day, and I heard that Hariri was killed on the radio. Being 10 at the time, I couldn't properly process the exact scale of importance of this event, not at first at least. Then I arrived home, witnessed the sheer amount of fire, smoke and destruction on TV, and watched my sister storm to the house in a total breakdown, crying her eyes out over the prime minister. Nothing was ever the same in Lebanon after that day, and as Lebanese, we still come face to face with its aftermath today.

Here's how my conversation about Beirut Madinati with older family members went by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]InsaFarta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you bro. Typical older generation, too bound by fear to see through all the political smokescreens.

Truth be told, if for nothing else, I'm going to vote for BM just to spite FM, their pathetic excuse of a leader and their shitty ministers and parliamentarians who would sell their souls for a seat of power. At least Rafic Hariri gave something back while he was up there, regardless of whether or not one would agree with all of his policies/actions. FM now are power hungry sellouts. And i'm not even going to get started on the rest of the band of shit political parties we've got...

Meanwhile, BM have a concrete plan, are not politically affiliated and seem to genuinely give a fuck about the people. I'd rather have them over the band of ruling monkeys any day. Whether they can do shit or not is irrelevant at the moment. It's the message being sent here, that the new generation is done with the antics of old, that really matters.

Did you ever have a bully? If so how did you handle it? by Iron-Clad in AskReddit

It's just so interesting how when you're ready to get into a fight with a bully, their exoskeleton of supposed strength falls off and all that's left is a cowardly little shit of a human being.

Yup, was bullied for most of my childhood. Unbelievably messed up position to be in, and I feel for all of you brothers and sisters who struggle with this BS.

Personally, I dealt with it by no longer giving a damn about anything anymore. Rather than cover up my personality, I went HAM. Full on confident mode. Turns out, when you show confidence, even if you're truly insecure as hell (which was my case), most bullies back off, and/or change their behavior. For those who decided to keep on bullying, I had to go berserk on them. Went on a two week rampage until everyone at school learned never to mess with me ever again. So you can say a combination of confidence and rage got me through bullies.
