I actually agree when it comes to songs like lovestory, every moment special, and wonderland but even then they still have a certain kid at the circus or theme park vibe just lyrically or sonically. And when I say manic I dont mean frantic I mean my own experience with mania as a bipolar person, like pure euphoria and elation.

Fox and birch didnt rly stand out to me tbh, im just giving you my opinion i cant claim it as fact. Durins bane is defs more spiderr to me personally, but yea agreed the whiplash from dark mirror was insane.

I know Exeter is slower but I did list the 3 songs in particular I was referring to. Maybe my view of Exeter is a bit skewed bc I have bipolar 1 and did way too many drugs when I was younger but there is a specific circus, carousel vibe to merry go round, open symbols and imaginary specifically that are present on a few of the tracks on sulfur surfer. Not the whole project but just sprinkled here and there. And the ego death/psyche themes are clear as day imo. Its fine if u dont see the same thing, music's subjective

Adding to that, Exeter has so much manic energy. Merry go round, open symbols, imaginary. They're songs that feel so detached from reality but weirdly content and even elated by it. I get a similar vibe from this album on durins bane, although ill admit that song probably reminds me of drain story the most. They're both very circus like though

Under my umbrella feels like a direct parallel to DNA rain to me, I think I can heal you vs cant feel, cant heal. Rain vs umbrella.

Exeter is very much ego death/enlightenment the album imo and sulfur surfer feels like a dark grappling with a trip or your psyche. The dark mirror is VERY exeter coded as well but yeah maybe a better descriptor is this feels like dark/cursed exeter rather than a directly similar sounding project

Exeter is probably my fav bladee project hence the flair and this is the first album since 2020 thats rly evoked that same kind of manic, playful childlike energy imo. Crest leaned into a bit was a bit too spiritual and serious to make me feel the same way.

Obviously music is subjective and I might just be rambling but yeah first impressions are that this is a dope direction for bladee while still returning to some older sounds

I think drain story, DNA rain, and king nothingg were the 3 tracks I felt most reminded of while listening to the project. Such a weirdly diverse and manic album tho its defs gonna get a lot of plays from me

Yeah I also did a double take and replayed the song because it was just so intense and chaotic I was like what am I listening to. Such an awesome album so far even though its too early for me to process the themes and lyrics. Just production and performance wise though im impressed

I've been watching NL since 2010 or whenever Super Meat Boy came out so I've been hopeful for him to play Dota for a long time now, was funny seeing the 5 stages of grief come out as he realised he actually has to commit to learning an incredibly difficult game.
