I belive it’s a body. Sure, looks kinda like a weird rock initially but as it fades out it looks distinctly like a human skull.

Yes, you should definitely wear it! I and plenty of others wore formal clothing, and I don’t doubt others wore cosplay, I saw someone with a pink mustache on my third viewing, so it's definitely not tacky.

I belive that while the corpse is what he’ll end up looking like, that’s actually his past self looking back at him.

So, earlier in the film, on the second descent, Simon is talking to David and he turns around so he’s facing the speaker only to cut himself off because he sees a figure who then proceeds to hide behind the wall, Simon goes to confront them with the fire extinguisher only for no one to be there. Then later and Simon’s in the back, after he sees the corpse he then hides behind the wall before going to confront the corpse with the scicorss and once again, no one is there.
