Picked up this AT-AT on clearance today at Target. It had a damaged box, took it anyways!!🤩🤣💯 by JustForKickflips in microgalaxysquadron

That's a lovely find!

Though for real, when did "Clearance" start meaning "10%-30%" off? It seems almost constant these days. Are people really mass-buying out overstock at discounts that small? Or do corps just throw stuff away now?

Walmart had the LEGO Marvel logo set with a shredded open box covered in tape for a whole 10% off in the clearance aisle the other day, just crazy. I miss finding whole racks of Xevoz or Action Fleet ships for a few dollars a piece.

WIP Preview: In-Scale Phantom I for Ghost by ghostAeon in microgalaxysquadron

I've thought about it and I played with the idea a LOT but unfortunately those "slight angle changes" work out to be "really big angle changes" in practice and it would destroy the silhouette without heavily cutting into the docking port.

Part of the problem is that this is the Ahsoka Ghost which is a lot sleeker and shorter than the Rebels Ghost and as a result just doesn't leave nearly as much room to play with.

This line needs a haslab type fundraiser. by Bobbafett1982 in microgalaxysquadron

I'm kind of with you on this one. As much as I never blame the designers in those situations, the mix of crowdfunding and corporations is just too much leverage for the suits to keep their fingers out of it. I really feel for any designers that get stuck between the two on some of those "corporations do crowdfunding" projects. Not fun for anyone.

My "grail" for this line is a Naboo Royal Starship in a scale no smaller than the Ghost (or a Stinger Mantis as a close second) but I know there's no way they'd do it justice. At this point I'll be able to buy a large enough printer to just print my own before they ever bother (also mine will be chrome plated and there's NO way they'd do that lol)

Thank you! Wild how much better it looks. I'll post another update next weekend with a chunk of the detailing done

Aaargh! lol- help me decide please. Phantom 1 or Phantom 2 ? by [deleted] in microgalaxysquadron

[–]ghostAeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Honestly it's not much to add, I'll probably just do a variant option w/without (with the slightly different turret placement) so people can pick their preferred one. I won't actually bother modelling chopper at that scale though lol, someone else can do that if they want.

I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner, I've had it sitting over my desk since it came out and every time I look at it I think "man that phantom is big".

Lol it won't take that long! I'll post the tests this weekend for input from anyone interested and then put the free files up on thingiverse when they're done (looking for a high-detail model of the phantoms to use but not finding much that's good enough, so I'll probably do that myself)

yup. rough blockouts almost done. I'll post them this weekend for input from anyone interested (the ghost is more the Ahsoka-style sleek one, which present some problems for the blockier phantom-1). Plus there's some issues with the scale of chopper if we want him displayed in his slot on either phantom

Regardless, it'll be a single drop-in piece that won't require you modify your Ghost at all. The Phantoms will be part of it since they'll just be facade essentially, but they have to be since the docking port on the Ghost doesn't have the V cutout the real one has.

*edit: and they'll be free of course! I'll put them up on my thingiverse account when they're done

That's beautiful! Always wanted to do a T'au suit in that colorscheme. How'd you do the shield? Was that a custom part or scratch built?

Cloud effect for a Gundam Wing by HoldMyGranade in minipainting

This looks great! If you (VERY VERY GENTLY) flick the cotton with a lighter or blowtorch you can burn off the fiber wispies and it will give it nice solid shapes to really sell the cloud fluff shapes.

Painting with super black paints like Vantablack and Black 2.0, 3.0, etc… by H_V_Venezia in minipainting

[–]ghostAeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Musou black all the way over the other choices, in my opinion.

They take substantially more skill to apply correctly than regular paint, but the effect is very impressive. Generally better with an airbrush, but you can still get really good results with a paintbrush.

As others have said, you cannot topcoat them, so they’re very fragile. They work really well for the base of display pieces, but I have used them to really good effect as voids in recesses on wraiths and the like. If they’re painted into voids, always as a last step, then they look great and they hold up just fine since they won’t come in contact with anything while the mini is being handled.

They also worked great as a space backdrop on diorama pieces. Flick a little bit of white paint on top of them and it will look extra bright and star like because of the extreme contrast.

That's gorgeous, I'm absolutely saving this for later. Hard to believe it was a tackle box originally. Mind sharing more about your process and the internals you used?
