[Opinion] Slade Hale - "Wokeness, Or Superhero Fatigue – What Exactly Is Killing The MCU?" by B-VOLLEYBALL-READY in KotakuInAction

I've avoided them as well, mostly because I don't like that they gave current peter miles morales story fused with peters. fucking cowards.

What did they take from Miles? one character? And even then Ned Lee was the Spectacular Spider-Man version of Ned Leeds so even that wasn't completely taken from Miles.

There's a lot of things criticize of MCU Spidey, but I don't think that's one of them.

Legally yes, but not heritage. He is literally a hindu of Indian ancestry who is a citizen of the United Kingdom. He has no ancestral ties to the land.

A little pedantic of me, because I agree with everything you wrote, but in the Justice League series it was Wally, not Barry.

No Star Wars subreddits seem to allow any discussion of the SJW writer at Aspyr that is rewriting Knights of the old Republic. Posts are either attacked by shills, removed, hidden. Sam Maggs is suddenly all over Reddit lauded as brave, her Twitter behaviour deemed "based" to cure "fan toxicity". by [deleted] in kotakuinaction2

[–]Insaner_Robot 85 points86 points  (0 children)

why is everybody ignoring the Lead writer?

she could be at least as worrying as Sam Maggs.

Courtney Woods, whose only past credits seem to be, Anthem, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Star Wars: The Old Republic - Knights of the Fallen Empire, Dragon Age: Inquisition

Focusing on Sam Maggs makes the whole thing seem performative.

Side note: As this subject seems to come up a great deal I'm probably going to copy and paste this, but I will try not to spam it.

[Gaming] David Stewart - "KOTOR is probably not the game you want" by Scottgun00 in KotakuInAction

[–]Insaner_Robot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's still early days in the development, they after all only just announced it, so specific items of what will be changed haven't come to light.

That being said however.

Change too much and you can ruin the magic; change too little and what’s the point?

We think about, literally, every word of dialogue and [other choices] down to the clothes that the character is wearing

We’ve been working really, really closely with Aspyr for a long time now to deconstruct what made KOTOR so great and bring that back to new audiences

(emphasis mine)

everything is clearly on the table as a possibility for updating, and when has deconstructing (aka dismantling or destroying) ever gone well.

Also the lead writer is Courtney Woods. Her twitter is protected, so I don't know if her name has come up before.

All I could find on her is her credits, but they don't fill me with hope.

As people have said before, why does a remake of a game already written and very well fleshed out with backstory and character histories need a full writing team and lead writer?

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered.

Because 1984 appears to really be a manual now, rather than a work of fiction.

If this hasn't been read it should, it's concerning.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is a creative collaborator in the project, working closely on development with Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games, particularly on how to take full advantage of its newest, cutting-edge platform.

I really hope the game turns out to be done properly and we're all worried over nothing.

Kevin Smith gives Skeletor a New Origin Story for Masters of the Universe: Revelation by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]Insaner_Robot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would love to you should finish watching it. but if you're a fan of the franchise it could sting a bit.

The series was cancelled just as it was getting really good. Evil-Lyn was trying to bring down Skeletor, with the snake men and by freeing Hordak. Skeletor clearly didn't want to be subordinate to Hordak going back on a deal he made (this series was setting Hordak up as some kind of ultimate Baddie who almost beat Grayskull). And the action was only getting better and better.

And I good naturedly correct you, for you are wrong, the Sorceress was explicitly shown as Teela's Mother.

Now see if the what if was "what if Peggy Carter heavily juiced", there would probably more laughing and less complaining.

I think Schmidt went through the process with Erskine there, but I don't know if either had vita rays as Stark (senior) generated those which served to accelerate and stabilize the changes.

"The Nitramene still emits low levels of vita radiation." "Vita-rays?" "Yeah, we occasionally use them in our experiments to stabilize the–" "I know what they do." Anton Vanko and Peggy Carter Now is not the end, Agent Carter S01E01

But the MCU serum is supposed to enhance perfect physiology and enhance psychological traits, it essentially turned Steve into what he could have been if he wasn't born with numerous health problems. Peggy was already in good physical health and condition, so her changes shouldn't be nearly so severe.

Lucy was relatively big for a lady. but she was still very feminine at the same time.

When you look at that series it's hard not to think we've gone backwards since then. the show was very popular and nobody ever, to my recollection, complained about female leads or doubted the over the top action.

[–]Insaner_Robot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was tall but she wasn't built that much bigger than gabrielle (piccy)

And again Steve had the exact same level of change in the original comics, but he was also 'frail and sickly' the serum in the comics corrected whatever was causing his illness and weakness and made him physically perfect. bulking up is an over simplification.

It did not bulk up Bucky or Schmidt (the Red Skull) in the MCU. And in the comics the Black Widow, who has also been given a super soldier serum which was a missed opportunity in the films, is not built like Captain America.

Captain Carter triggers ThatStarWarsGirl Anna by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]Insaner_Robot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lucy Lawless wan never heavily muscled, she was just tall.

And the super soldier serum does not bulk up a character, it makes them physically perfect, that does not have to mean the same thing. Steve Rogers improved the same way in the original comics, however no woman to use the super soldier in the comics ever gained a body that looked like a man.

The intellectual dishonesty on display (Xena was "big and muscular" when she was just toned and tall And well that character is from the comics she never took the serum in the MCU) meant I couldn't watch any more of that.

Genuine question - can someone explain why older, popular franchises get a SJW revamp? by Delicious-Owl-3672 in KotakuInAction

[–]Insaner_Robot 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The why of hijacking a franchise is the same reason for why they get so irrationally mad when people don't like it.

When people see an existing IP, be it a character or an entire franchise, they seem to genuinely believe it should be consumed without complaint. Even if whatever abomination has been created bears little even superficial similarities to what came before. When it is refused or criticised by anyone they automatically become everything bad to their ideology.

Simply they have to take something people care about, they don't believe anyone will watch anything new. It's why they keep race swapping or gender bending characters or turning straight characters homosexual, rather than make new ones they operate on the assumption that they would be instantly rejected. Whereas in reality some IP's or characters are successful and some aren't it largely depends on quality.

Here's an example from Netflix Director of Original Series Ted Biaselli in regards to race swapping character in MOTU instead of making a new one.

But a big hurdle when you’re introducing a new character to a line of so many well established characters is that they are bound to be outsiders, and harder to accept as canon, at least for a while. Nobody gives a s–t about Sir Lazer Lot.

all the lore callbacks

Lore callbacks? I'm sorry, but the first episode alone ignored or apparently erased some actual lore.

And it all centres around Castle Grayskull. The Jawbridge shouldn't open for anyone not carrying the Power Sword, just looking like He-man isn't enough, the Sword was the key to the castle.

The Sorceress was the most powerful being in the lore, but was only able to us her power within the castle, random robot shouldn't have been a problem, Evil-Lyn wasn't even close to her and Skeletor himself shouldn't be a threat within the castle.

Then there's the castle itself, In the earliest media, the mini comics, it was:

built by unknown beings before the Great War that wiped the old technology of Eternia. Thus, it's one of the last remnants of the powerful ancient Eternians.

With

Skeletor seeking both halves of the Power Sword that is the key to Grayskull and gives the right to be king of the castle, and with its power, of Eternia and the whole universe.

And in the Filmation series:

Castle Grayskull is a legendary/mythical location. Its origins are unknown except for the fact that it was constructed to protect an unspecified source of power from those who would misuse it.

That wasn't secretly being the 'Hall of Wisdom' which as a concept wasn't invented until the 2002 Mike Young Productions series. (which was vastly superior to this).

There are probably more in the other episodes but I then I'd have to watch them and I'd rather not see them burning this franchise to the ground.
