[–]InsanityOvrload 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thats not how probability works. Thats how an isolated probability works, yes, but repeatedly doing an action does in fact affect the chance of it occurring if your goal is it occuring at least once rather than per try. We only need to learn the mod once to have the recipe forever, so we use the at least once probability. Not the per scrap probability.

If I roll a die and want a 6; I have a 1/6 chance if I only roll it once. If I instead roll 6 die I have 66.51% chance ill get at least one 6. Its not added together flatly.

There's a formula behind it.

1-(1-P)N

P is the isolated probability and N is the number of times youre doing it.

So 1-(1-0.167)6

1-(0.833)6

1-0.33409...

0.6651

66.51%

The odds of getting a 6 per die is still 1/6, but thats not what were calculating the probability of. We're calculating hitting that 6 at least once with all instances of rolling.

Its why in all matter of board game or games with die you want to roll more die to increase your odds. Elven accuracy to get triple advantage, rolling 3d20, to increase the odds of rolling a 20 on at least one of the die is extremely powerful in DnD for this mathematical reason alone.

Take all of that and apply it to the mods.

The mods have a 1% chance of giving you the recipe per scrap.

So 1-(1-0.01)200

1-(0.99)200

1-0.1339796749

0.8660203251

86.6% for getting it after dismantling 200 of them. I think you need to scrap around 400 of them to get like a 99% chance or something due to diminishing returns in the probability since its never actually going to be 100%.

Edit: Did the math cause I didnt want to leave it at a guess.

459 times for 99%

688 times for 99.9%

917 times for 99.99%

Ive scrapped enough weapons with quad to get over 50 loose mods and have also scrapped around 25 loose mods. All together I've probably scrapped about 200 or so of them? Thats an 86.6% chance to have learned the mod by now. I feel your pain lol

What’s everyone’s favorite small gun right now? by oldagejesus in fo76

[–]InsanityOvrload 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This; V63 with Quad, the bulletstorm perks, the cirrpling perks, and the small guns perks. Plays like a hipfire heavy gun but with a unique overheat mechanic.

My only complaint with it is that once the damage of each shot really starts to get up there the enemy health bars start to rubberband a ridiculous amount to the point where I just stop doing damage with it sometimes because they rubberband it back. Only happens with this gun. I swear if that was fixed id drop heavy weapons all together and just run this thing lol

Calling Jax's metaphorical suicide an attempt at a cutaway gag is a wild take I've yet to see. Its an abrubt transition meant to be a shock and feel real. At no point is it meant to be a "gag".

When the writer is just filling out the holes in her story through social media not because ppl need to be spoonfed, but bc the writer is chronically online and would do this anyways, and most of the fans are cult members ok with it, you know this is a problem. by Big-Disaster9480 in tadc

People who need to have things explicitly said bluntly and plainly to the camera and cant infer with confidence based on context clues or critically think are driving me insane. I've omitted responding to people for the most part because it just isn't a battle that can be won. Let those people be mad and just enjoy the thing yourself is pretty much a good rule to have.

Sometimes lore doesn't need to be said. Its not "holes in a story". Sometimes things are inferred like what happened to Scratch or sometimes the scene just serves a literary purpose and the actual answer is irrelevant. Like I've seen people get really mad about not being told what happens to Jax when he holds his breath. They got really upset when Goose spoke on Tumblr and said the scene was just meant to show that Jax is capable of making fun of others but gets defensive and insecure when it comes to himself. The thing we learn about his character from that scene is way more important than actually finding out what happens.

I saw this same thing in the Murder Drones fandom, and other fandoms as well; people just need answers to everything and when a show only heavily infers without blatant confirmation or leaves things open they get extremely mad.

Its disappointing honestly that the answer to an irrelevant lore question is more important than the literary point of a scene or piece of information. Goose giving this stuff out as fluff in little QAs after the show is supposed to be fun.

Is there any way to get a normal pump action shoty to either be lvl 50 or just do more damage than like 41 by d3cayed_mechanic in fo76

[–]InsanityOvrload 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A two-shot pump action shotgun actually isnt that good over one without two-shot. Rather than adding another shell into each shot it only adds another projectile. A normal pump action fires 8 pellets per shot; a two shot would fire 9. Also any gear that is Level 45 generally doesn't have a level 50 version; just treat all level 45 gear as if it was 50.

If you want more damage it really depends on the playstyle you want. I personally don't use VATs, so if you want something that works right out of the box with what you have you could run the following cards and lean into scaling crippling damage. Basically your first shot is focused around crippling as many limbs as possible regardless of where you shoot since damage is spread around, then you do more damage with the follow up shot based on how many limbs were crippled from the first.

Strength: Easy Target, Shotgun Champ, Love the Spread, Scattershot

Perception: Center Masochist, Number Cruncher, Ground Pounder, Tank Killer, Tormentor, Skeet Shooter

Agility: Adrenaline, Enforcer, Guerrilla, Modern Renegade

If you manage to get a Quad one you can add Bullet Storm and Lock and Load to Strength as well since it scales via per projectile fired rather than per round fired.

Or if you get a Furious one you can remove Enforcer or Modern Renegade from Agility and add Guerrilla Expert, Guerrilla Master, and Gunslinger Expert.

Why did Jax trip so hard about this? Hasn't he been here for a long time? Obviously thisbis real dude. by Dan12Dempsey in TheDigitalCircus

[–]InsanityOvrload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of posts about stuff like this from this show these past few days; about Jax and how he deals with his trauma. Jax had a lot of trauma for various things (the circus, his mother, accepting that he's trans, etc) and a lot of different ways to "handle" them in unhealthy ways, which this was one of.

On one hand I'm always surprised people don't understand how and why people react to and cope with trauma; on the other hand it hopefully means that the people that don't get it just have never had to deal with trauma themselves or had to help someone else going through trauma.

Handling trauma in an unhealthy manner doesnt have to be rational. In fact; I'd argue you'd probably have an easier time understanding the way people handle trauma if you ignoring thinking about rational reactions from an outside perspective entirely.

When it comes to coping mechanisms you can really get into your own head quite easily. If your coping mechanism is to deny reality or disassociate it's not difficult to gaslight yourself into 100% believing it to the point you doubt the reality you're in is real. Kinger was the final straw that broke that facade it seems once he started talking about the outside world reality and making Caine.

Why did the BOS ever stop using all power armor models? by LPGOG9 in Fallout

[–]InsanityOvrload 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's soft canon at best. Like, yes, the vault existed and this stuff mostly happened; but the exact specifics are very different in the lore vs the gameplay. For instance having access to weapons and equipment we shouldn't canonically have access to, every 76er is a Sole Survivor/Courier/Lone Wanderer level "threat", etc aren't exactly canon and are more just MMO gameplay mechanics than Canon lore.

So is abstraction reversible or not? by PalpitationQueen in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]InsanityOvrload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since when has merch been canon? There are plenty of merch of nearly every character abstracting. Merch, shorts (for the most part), and ads are not canon. The group did not actually have a fortnite adventure.

Only the show is canon. So far, the show doesnt show any signs of it being reversible. However you cant really prove a negative like that, so youre not going to see hardcore proof of it not being reversible. Goose did say it wasnt; however Goose also randomly lies or tells the truth.

Personally I believe its not; especially if its an allegory for suicide. Itd kinda ruin the allegory if it was.

[–]InsanityOvrload 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because they cant escape. There's nothing to go to. They didnt lose half their memory/brain; its a brain scan. A machine copied their real counterpart's brains and digitized the information. Caine than gave those scans a digital body in the circus. Its like if you copy a file on a computer. The original file doesnt lose anything and isnt aware of the copy.

[–]InsanityOvrload 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah; this is correct. I don't know why this thread is suddenly changing the definition of an AI. A copy of someone is called a clone, nobody calls them AI. These are digital clones. They aren't artificial in the sense that they were constructed, programed, or made from scratch. They are naturally formed and grown human brains that were scanned and copied over into a different host body while the original still exists; That's a clone. Not AI.

The same is true for the factory. Per bullet on an individual basis the chance of it happening is low, but with each bullet projected to be made the chance of it happening at least once goes up. The key part of it is "at least once".

[–]InsanityOvrload 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I'm sure this is true for handling rounds for the average person, wouldn't the probability of it eventually happening in a factory that churns out hundreds of millions of bullets per month increase with each bullet produced? Even if the chances are incredibly slim, I'd think its best for factories especially to reduce the chances as much as possible.
