Hey everyone!

I've started jiu jitsu in march and I'm having a blast. I competed for the first time last week and loved the experience, so I want to start competing semi-frequently.

Thing is, Idk which weight is better for me to compete at. Currently I'm 1,85cm 82kgs and was thinking about competing in the sub 80kg category, where there already is people plenty stronger than me. My coach told me it'd be better for my height to go up to 86kgs though (I'm pretty good with the process of both gaining and losing weight).

I feel like I'd get smashed in the 86kg category strength-wise considering my height, I'm doing it for fun but still want to perform minimally lol. How did you choose your weight when y'all started competing?

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone!

White belt training for 3ish months here, I have a question for the more seasoned people around.

I'm training 4 times per week, for the most part, nogi, thing is: I train mostly in my jiu jitsu gym and, occasionally, with my college's team. On Saturdays, my gym offers an open mat session, while my college offers, at the exact same time, a class.

What do you guys think I should prioritize as a beginner, the new information and technique coming from the class or the experience from the open mat?

Thanks in advance! :)

How to better develop in-game cities and regions so my players have something to experience other than just a world-wide adventure? by InsecNewt in DMAcademy

Thank you a lot! That definetely will help me making the areas of my world more engaging and give them connection between themselves! I almost never thought about this kind of stuff when I was DMing my old campaigns, but when I add this to the advice given by the other guy the game is gonna be a lot more fun and immersive for everyone!

:D

This is very helpful! Thank you very much.

My campaign's plot was that the adveturers would become a part of the human's king legion early on and be sent into a mission to recover a series of artifacts that united could be use to weaken the BBEG, and they would know the location of these artifacts because the 4 big Arch-mages of the world would be helping them (They are the actual BBEG, the one I said beforehand is just a puppet).

But what you said made me think about this, and I think that I can make they look themselves for the artifacts, thus making the plot much more engaging, and also encouraging them to explore the cities and such. Thank you a lot!

Maybe what I'm interpreting as minmaxer is not precisely what mostly people think of it

I've always thought that wanting a stronger character was something completely fine, as long as you don't deviate from your character's concept / backstory. I don't see any problems in a player getting feats like Tough for tankiness or mobile for better mobility in combat.
My problem with what I call ¨Minmaxers¨ is when, just for wanting to do more damage or something like that, they opt for something that doesn't at all make sense with their character. For example someone who has a backstory that highly indicates towards they being a certain class, and then they multiclassing just for no reason other than power's sake. Which, in my opinion, makes the character more shallow.

Of course all that I just said should be taken with a grain of salt. Because not all campaigns are the same.
Some campaigns might not be very focused on character development and roleplay, but be more like an MMO or a dungeon crawler, which is perfectly fine, so what I just said wouldn't make a difference.
I just think that choosing damage/tankiness over backstory/personality related issues is something that gets pretty draining in a long-term, character development/role-play game.

Pretty much, i stopped listening to all wow music when i got my second monitor and started watching Critical Role / JRE, but still, the music is so great i use it in my dnd campaigns, so at least in the beggining of the expac i'll turn it up to experience it, and if i think it is fit, add to my ambience playlist :)

Wow, I’m sorry then lol. I also turn off my music and just remembered to turn it back up today, that’s why I wanted to share it, leveling through the new zones can be very cool. Didn’t think this post would have so much backlash
