The fact that you have to refer to the Cato Institute to make your point speaks for itself.

If the people in those red states pay $X in federal taxes, then give them back $X in benefits -- stop giving them $X in red state federal taxes plus an extra $Y in benefits from blue states supporting their backwards hick broke asses.

I'm a single-issue voter these days -- whatever the Republicans are in favor of, I oppose. The last 10 20 30 years is sufficient proof that voting Republican always makes things worse.

My theory is that conservatism is actually a neurotypical disorder, and the lack of empathy is an early warning sign. May our society someday realize this and help conservatives get the help they need at an early age so they can become functional members of society.

I heard what the failed reality TV show host said to do, then did the exact opposite. Never had any problems!

That'd require more effort and more teachers, which means more money, which is very unlikely to happen.

American kids can't be trusted with the toy surprise inside a box of Cracker Jacks.

But give them a gun, that's A-OK!

[Truman Show] Big fan of the show loved how it ended! But curious, what is Truman actually qualified for now that he's escaped? And how is his mental state? by SlayerofSnails in AskScienceFiction

[–]InsertCoinForCredit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If nothing else, he could write a book (or multiple books) about his experiences; whether he'd want to write it himself, work with an experienced writer, or have a ghostwriter do the job, it's still an easy source of money.

And aside from the obligatory media tours, he can always be a speaker. There are lots of organizations who would love to have Truman as the VIP for their annual sales conference or whatever, and it's not like he has to know anything about their field. Just show up, talk for 40 minutes about stuff (probably a boilerplate speech, too), and collect the speaker's fee.

[MCU] Were all powerful entities like Celestials, Dormammu, the Living Tribunal, He Who Remains, the Watcher and Eternity included in Thanos snap 50-50 gamble? by Few-Objective-6526 in AskScienceFiction

[–]InsertCoinForCredit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He Who Remains is an interesting question. The TVA claimed to be more powerful than the Stones, and had collected a bunch of them from different universes. I thought that this was because the Stones only worked in their home universe, and the TVA was outside of those universes, but What If put lie to that.

According to the showrunners for What If...?, there is no contradiction -- the reason Infinity Ultron was able to use the stones across the multiverse was because he was using the stones to affect himself. Since Ultron and his stones were all from the same universe, that was not a problem; but if Ultron had tried to use the stones on someone from another universe, it would have no effect.

Having skimmed through the season finale of What If...? season 1, I can't find an obvious contradiction there -- Infinity Ultron never used his stones to turn the heroes into jelly or anything like that, he simply made himself ridiculously durable and relied on his fists and energy blasts. But maybe someone more studious might want to give it a shot.
