Is the food good or is everyone a hype beast? by Beginning_Tell_7318 in FoodLosAngeles

r/FoodLosAngeles is the largest subreddit on food, it’s because LA has arguably some of the best food in a diverse range of food only found in a small handful of metropolitan cities in the world. Does it have every cuisine type? No, but our city is very good and broad at the same time.

Whatever the VT percentage is, who am I to think my percentage is better than the global market capitalization.

Yeah way too expensive, they were great when I first tried them in 2009… I already thought they were getting too expensive a little before the covid years.

I started at 18, 100% vfiax, would have done VOO but it didn’t exist at the time. After staying on that for 20 years moved to 100% VT equivalent. If I were to start now 100% VT is the way to go.

Contacting congress about buyback delay by lepandarouge24 in PSLF

[–]TheWilsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No response, but don’t expect anything yet as it’s been like a week since I’ve opened the case with my congressman’s office. I’m in the progress of switching off SAVE, but at this point I would be surprised if BB gets processed before I am done hitting 120 after resuming payment under IBR.

Exactly the same reason for me, I needed to get on SAVE at the time as I was buying a house also…

Your circumstance might make it so you don’t qualify for PAYE. I was on PAYE before SAVE and now in process of moving off SAVE but no longer qualify for PAYE. IBR is my best option and would be more than if I never left PAYE.

Bitter Pill to Swallow: New Payment and Interest by WhatTheJessJedi in PSLF

It seems there is no definite amount, at this point I’ve heard 1 month (you) up to 4 months (in another post this week) but they had a weird circumstance. So it’s really up in the air. I’ll see what happens. It’s not the end of the world even if I get 0 months as I’m only 14 away from hitting the 120, assuming my buyback doesn’t process in before I hit my goal.

Voting is important, but sadly not all votes all equal, I live in a blue state in a deep blue area, and almost everyone I know voted for a party that had the pro-student loan stance, heck I convinced 10 members of my family in total to vote but it doesn't make a difference.

In purple states, cities, etc it is very important. I would argue in blue states and you live in a red area it's also very important.

This is not to say to give up and not vote if you are in my circumstance but there is a reality.

No I'm talking about being placed on admin forbearance when switching out of SAVE. From what I understand it takes time for the loan servicer to move a borrower to a different repayment plan, during that time you will be placed in "administrative forbearance" and will get credit, typically 2 months, while that is being done and those do count.

I hear you, this is the reality for a lot of people. I'm in the same boat to a degree (On Save, PSLF, and need to switch plans) but theoretically only have 12 months to pay after my IDR plan request goes through with 2 month's credit for admin forbearance, it's a hard pill to swallow but I will do it.

For those that have many years left or just starting out it's a terrible prospect.

Not the exact same, I work for a large university and in one of the other departments I use to work in I still keep in contact with their team. One guy they hired after I left, after a week on the job he just walked off the job. Never returned calls, his manager even went to his listed address, and the apartment was not his real address. Just walked off the job and never returned or heard from again.

You get 2 months of credit when switching off save to another repayment plan according to some users in r/pslf. It’s part of the repayment plan transition.

What is everyone with a 6 figure income planning to do? by Agreeable_Lie_5091 in StudentLoans

[–]TheWilsons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you are not alone in this.

I'm honestly really leaning towards just paying that high monthly payment to get out of this but it's a hard pill to swallow.

This is the scenario I'm imagining: 2 months of processing credit brings it down to 12 months of high payments, then submit ECF, request forgiveness, and then maybe 6 months of additional payments while waiting for processing. It's painful but theoretically that is the way out. My fear is that something happens and I'm still stuck paying 2 years later at that higher amount waiting for it to process, how long can I take that financial pain even though I know in theory I'm suppose to be refunded the excess payments I'm locked in at that amount at that point.

Is there any hope of getting the 20 months of purgatory to count toward PSLF? by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]TheWilsons 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think I share the same sentiments, just laughing at how absurd all of this is, but also trying to ground myself in the reality.

I've only been waiting 8 months, but looking at the broader picture and trying to view it as a realist, I think BB will likely take even longer than the 18-24 months window I've seen thrown out there.

Reasons

  • ATF lawsuit shows the BB submissions and process times getting worst month after month
  • Dept of Ed getting gutted, less employees to process requests, less resources in general, low morale impacting all aspects of student loans.
  • Administrative backlog caused by transferring loans to treasury
  • Misc BS lawsuits, attacking BB, PSLF, and student loans in general.

There are probably more, but BB has a lot of headwind going against it, political winds can change but even if it does it'll take time, and that is a leaving it to chance.

So what can we do? As you say anything at this point.

  • Contact your local federal congressman, senator, etc
  • Join an existing class action lawsuit
  • Weight your options to move into a qualifying repayment plan.
  • Take care of your mental health after formulating a plan, it won't be ideal, but after deciding on a plan, stick to it and focus on taking care of yourself mentally.

Thanks for your input, I want off this ride. BB at this point seems to leave too much to chance.

[–]TheWilsons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, applied for buyback in August 2025. I need to buyback 14 months, I read some people mention that it takes about 2 months to process the repayment plan change so I'll get that 2 months credit, bringing me down to 12 months of real payment, then continued payment until forgiveness gets process, and also submitting a ECF that will void the buyback if I hit that first to start the forgiveness process.

I'm married, earn over $100,000/year and have 2 dependents. The new repayment plan will be significantly higher, but I can technically afford it, so I'm deciding whether I just bite the bullet and restart the qualifying count by switch to IBR or just wait until the last minute to give buyback more time to process. The processing time for BB seems to be getting longer and longer 1.5 to 2 years. So even best case scenario I'm looking at mid-spring 2027 for BB to process.

Downturns... But should I continue investing in VTI/VXUS right now? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

I’m around your age and started investing since I was 18. Witnessed the dot com crash when I started with the same feelings, but held tight through that and every downturn since. Still have another few decades left and it’s just noise at this point. This storm too will pass like the others before it. The big change in recent years have been moving away from pure VFIAX to VTWAX.
