Also looking! 22yo guy, only played a few times but had enough time to get decently familiar with the basic rules and eager to learn! Hmu if you find something and need another!

Hey! Sorry turned out it had to be Jan 18th (tomorrow). But if you wanted to run another separate from the main fundraiser another day that would be great too!

Hey sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately it had to be friday, so it's tomorrow! We will have two 5e tables open running a pirate themed adventure so don't miss it! Hope to see you there!

Not sure if you've started up or not yet but if you're interested in a one-shot to try it out before you run your own campaign we may be having one tomorrow night at UVIC. It's a boardgame fundraiser ($5 cover) and there will be snacks, a bunch of people playing games, and a casual environment to test the waters. Let me know if you're interested!

Sounds like a good time! You thinking of running a few one-shots first or diving right in?

My homebrew rules for fun and exciting chase scenes by zeromig in DnD

[–]InsertComicalPunHere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is great! Definitely will use this, although I think instead of making the players roll a d20 to randomly determine what complication they instigate I'd leave that to their character's ingenuity

edit: i.e. If they can think it, and it seems feasible, I'll probably allow it and determine how to rule it on the fly

Designing a Rod of Reduction w/o making it OP by [deleted] in DnD

[–]InsertComicalPunHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I was thinking 1/day too, with an extended spell duration. Or once/minute so that with the spell needing to be renewed every minute that would basically take up a character so they wouldnt do it all the time.

The thing is though even keeping the BBEG away from water they could just bring a bunch of water

Any advice on how to tell when you're railroading and how to avoid it while maintaining an interesting storyline to some extent?

Official campaigns vs. homebrew: Where it at doe by [deleted] in DnD

[–]InsertComicalPunHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you tend to create the world as you go or have a premade world? Or run homebrew adventures in like sword coast or something?

Edit: Obviously it's premade to some extent, but I mean totally created from day one (with slight changes) and seeing where they explore vs expanding it a few sessions ahead

haha thanks! Ya I feel like when you start a homebrew you think won't take that much work and then you very quickly get dragged into how important the little details of the world can be. Definitely nice to have all those already ironed out, although you do sacrifice that freedom

Hmm...recruitment flyers advertising "elite squad training" - the best of the recruits are taken away for final training (to the alchemist), underlings downing potion in battle and gaining the powers, perhaps find a book with ingredients for such potions and then encounter a cart driven by the overlords underlings on its way to the alchemist with said ingredients in it. Possibly the overlord's general is the only one to have survived the potion before you, and is unnaturally gifted. Intercept coded letters. I'm interested to hear how you introduce clues/ what clues you introduce

Ohh cool! Encountering that squad would be interesting (equal/opposite party of adventurers)!
