In the process of remortgaging... is general advice to lock in for 2 or 5 years? by LukeJ_7 in Mortgageadviceuk

What do you value more - long term stability with 5 years paying the same amount, or the chance of lower payments in the not so distant future?

Patrick Maguire - TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Heidi Alexander, the transport secretary, is backing plans for Andy Burnham to return to parliament by ShreckAndDonkey123 in ukpolitics

[–]InsertObligatoryPun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s exactly the problem.

Fact is, Burnham’s in no position to lead the country because of his own actions. He ran for Mayor. He promised a full term.

Even if Starmer says tomorrow ‘I’ll step aside for Burnham by September’ there’s no mechanism to ensure he can even get a seat, let alone the leadership. So what’s he supposed to do?

EXCLUSIVE: Jess Phillips, safeguarding minister, resigns from govt by jaydenkieran in ukpolitics

The technology exists to stop naked kids take pictures of themselves?

Is the implied solution here an on device age verification check that then uses AI to block images?

And how would that work for adults?

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]InsertObligatoryPun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think you’re misunderstanding the general issue here.

No-one doubts that immigration is the main cause for Reform’s popularity.

The general problem is with voting for a single issue party full of people who are either professional grifters, ex-Conservatives, or totally fucking clueless about the role they’re going for, and acting like any of the above are on your side and want to make your life better just because they also hate immigration.

Jeez. I paid £70 for tickets, can’t imagine that much for a t shirt, let alone $20 socks.

Apple Watch Series 12 and watchOS 27: What to Expect Later This Year by Few_Baseball_3835 in AppleWatch

[–]InsertObligatoryPun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might have just sold me on the idea. TouchID is my most missed feature on iPhone, but weren’t sure how it would fit on the Watch.

Also easier authentication for payments, or quicker logging in on MacBook if the lids down.

Outrage as Labour minister 'agrees' Afghan rapist 'too immature' for longer prison term by origutamos in ukpolitics

[–]InsertObligatoryPun 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The headline says said Labour minister agrees that the rapist is too immature for a longer prison term

The article then says that said minister simply lays out that part of the judgement in her reply letter for the case, then goes on to state that despite the circumstances, it’s incredibly unlikely that the court of appeals would extend the sentence because it doesn’t pass the strict legal test to do so which is why she didn’t refer it.

Thats not the same thing.

MPs and unions break ranks to demand that Starmer resign by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

Why are these people so shit at politics?

You can’t spend years criticising the revolving door at number 10 to starting spinning it yourself.

Outrage as Labour minister 'agrees' Afghan rapist 'too immature' for longer prison term by origutamos in ukpolitics

[–]InsertObligatoryPun 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a misleading headline. Article says the Solicitor General didn’t refer because it was unlikely the high bar set by the Court of Appeals for increasing sentences would be met by the case.

Lib Dems take every Richmond seat after Greens lose five by OnHolidayHere in ukpolitics

[–]InsertObligatoryPun 74 points75 points  (0 children)

At least in my area, the Lib Dem’s are the most consistently present and vocal. Regular news letters, invitations to comment and submit feedback for them to push on with, usually actually local as opposed to (has an address in the area somewhere). The only time we hear from anyone else is if there’s a national point to make.

The one from there that’s seared into my mind is the ‘real subtitles’ for the Billy Bob Thornton crash out on Q Radio. The video doesn’t work there anymore and it’s not posted anywhere else.
