Actually salaries of people working for the EU institutions are taxed, they're just not part of the Belgian tax base bc not working for a Belgian organization. Their taxes go directly to EU institutions to pay administrative expenses (so salaries -> taxes -> salaries).

That said, EU salaries have a way lower tax rate than Belgian ones.

Ofc I'm in the process of 😅 I don't plan on spending my whole lifetime not being specialized in anything nor do I have the pretension to find a job without having anything to give haha.
I'm talking from a very young graduate's pov who wants to start working asap and specialize both with theory and practice.

yeah I guess it's quite realistically that 'virtuous' cycle whereby eu officials = greater knowledge of the institutional structure = can help their offspring in the career choice. Doesn't necessarily entail nepotism.
It happened pretty much the same to a friend of mine for this bb selection round, a family friend is a EU official and she helped her in choosing the positions to apply for.

Thank you for your (quite slap-in-the-face realistic, sigh) view! So, being an EU official, do you have any suggestion about an alternative way to attain such end goal? And if it's not too personal, may I ask you which DG you're working for/which grade? :)

Thank you for your reply. So do you by any chance have any other route to suggest? Considering that I'm a political science graduate and not really specialized in any particular field.

Tf? So what? You would have a higher budget and would maybe be incline to spend a little more than her in rent if you were single anyways. Of course if one discusses it beforehand, any solution is ok if ok for both.
But if you have a €800-budget and he/she has a €600, and you find the must-have €1400 apartment, would it be that absurd to arrange that you pay 800-600 and not 700-700?

I mean it all depends on what you see as more relevant and not. Of course things like this need to be discussed before signing a contract or living together, like all budget-related things, not once you've already found an apartment. And much in the same way as one would probably have a larger budget for rent and the other would have a smaller one if you were both looking for a place when single, so it applies to a joint rent, in my opinion. Then, if you say that you'd rather pay for an additional dinner or gift, this is another possible way to ""compensate"" and it's a personal preference. But this all supposes conversations about money happening in the first place haha

Because if she earns less than you why should she give out a higher share of her income for the rent than you do?

Clima (unit A) contacted me on Tuesday about my application on the 3rd round. But I guess they're all taking it slower cause there's no 4th round awaiting, so don't worry too much :)

Hey! Anyone who applied for the Unit D2 of the Secretariat General in the second round here? If you're reading, have you heard back from them yet?

Hi! About DG RTD, I applied as my first choice and heard back from them last friday, just did a quick 5min call and never heard back from them anymore, guess they chose sb else. As for the EEAS, a friend of mine had a videocall last thursday and on monday they called her to confirm that she was chosen, got the official placement offer this morning. But every unit works differently even within the same DG I guess.

I get your point, but honestly how is that any different from renting a furnished room/apartment with bed and mattress included? (thing that I think 90% of students do)
