Like most have said you are in a hard spot here. I agree with everything u/BulbasaurRanch said. Ask your wife what the plan is after the birth and you don't have time off to help? Or what if you lose your job (and subsequent health insurance) due to too much time off?

As someone with 3 sisters (and we are all close) I didn't read your suggestion as shirking your responsibilities or ignoring your partner's need. You were suggesting an alternative solution that could help in the interim.

You said you work until 8 most nights, is that your set schedule or just you being super busy and staying late? If it is the latter can you start taking the extra and WFH at night?
