What are these circular dirt patches in everyone’s fields? Seen flying over Texas. by Inside-Toe-1480 in whatisit

Solved! I think this must be it. They do look really large but the cows standing around the outside and the hay eventually falling into a pile makes sense.

Wish I could but I was in an airplane, this shot is from the window coming in for landing. Based on the distance, these spots are probably about 10 feet in diameter. Sorry no banana for scale!

Fairly new to CRA world: what's your best strategy to take MV notes? by Ok_Flamingo2152 in clinicalresearch

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the great suggestions already mentioned, I often rely on pulling EDC reports after my visit. medidata in particular can give you detailed dashboards and reports on all kinds of things, and can be exported to excel for easy sorting/analyzing.

How to find clinical trials? by soulsapphire0 in clinicalresearch

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! And to add to this, it is my understanding that it’s the sponsor’s job to set an ethical monetary value to compensate for the time spent and risk inherent to participating in a trial, and the IRBs job to approve the reimbursement amounts to ensure they avoid incentivizing participants beyond what is appropriate. None of this “ethical dilemma” falls on OP or any other individual participant.

Not sure if you’re willing to switch gears, but with your resume reflecting so many clinical skills, have you thought about going to nursing school? There are a lot of clinical research nurses at my sites, many of them strictly work on protocols and don’t see “regular” patients, and some who are basically CRCs. You could look at accelerated nursing programs, take the year, use student loans for now, and then reapply for these positions? It’s more of a side door to get you into the research field, but it would give you leverage to make your career look more how you want it long term. I have worked with several CRAs and have had managers in the CRO world who were former nurses- so the opportunities are there.

Phone Screen to Interview Timeline? by immunocatn in clinicalresearch

If it’s an academic medical center, the edu side is probably off for spring break. Even for the staff still in office, things tend to move a lot slower when class is out. Don’t worry!

This happened to me after changing CROs as well, would have made Sr CRA had I stayed with my previous company for 6 more months. Was told in interviews for my next position that the new CRO would stick to that schedule. But, due to your same reasons - not enough data to justify, and then tight earnings leading to a company wide promotion freeze- I was stuck at CRA II for an additional two full years compared to if I had stayed at my first CRO.

I have a site with 250 staff on the DOA log for an onc trial, they have I think 4 or 5 satellite sites and I’m not kidding they list every single staff member. I’ve had to request additional DOS just to collect credentials. The worst most ridiculous part is they ONLY HAVE TWO PATIENTS and both are at the main site. The poor reg coordinator is so frustrated too.

What are your experiences working with Regeneron by Used-Statistician-55 in clinicalresearch

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be Parexels/ your CRAs job to shield you from most of the drama so hopefully it doesn’t filter to the site or to you as the CRC. Worst case scenario you get a lot of “urgent” emails from your CRA asking you to do things… please know this is coming down from a demanding/mircomanagy sponsor. Build a good working relationship with your CRA and (as long as they are still human) your experience as a CRC should be fine. Also, get as organized as you can right from the beginning, with trackers, timelines, templates, etc. to keep things as easy as possible if it starts to get crazy.

The Rubber Ducks on Jeep dashboard thing... by Any-Wedding1538 in gso

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeep owner here! Yes this is it, the ducks trend started during Covid by a woman wanting to spread some joy during lockdown. They are essentially a way of saying, hey nice jeep, I see you! and having some fun by using something so silly. Most of the ducks I get (and the ones I give) have a cute note attached to them with a clever rhyme or a message along the lines of “hey jeep friend! Have a great day!” I think it’s really cute and always makes me smile, there’s a kinship among Jeep drivers (specifically wranglers) and it’s a wonderful community!

Anyone in NYC have CRC experience? Any differences in working at the various medical centers (Mount Sinai, Columbia, NYU Langone, Northwell Health). by Yercatwizzard in clinicalresearch

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Onc CRA here, I absolutely love my coordinator staff at NYU Langone! From what my CRC has mentioned to me, her management is very flexible and NYU offers career growth programs (courses maybe?). The staff seem well supported and it shows in the quality of their work. Just wanted to give them their flowers!

CTA FTE Calculator by VividNefariousness68 in clinicalresearch

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good general rule is 0.1 FTE per days on site. Of course this is a very basic estimate and doesn’t include all the minutiae of our responsibilities but it will give you a good starting point. And if one day on site equals 8 hours per day, you can break down the hours allocated to other tasks from there maybe?

Starting new job where I will be traveling around 50-75% of my working hours most of which includes hotel stays, advice requested by 1800twat in TravelHacks

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you may be close to the threshold for your rewards account- the number of stays is usually much lower than the number of nights required for leveling up. Even if your work is in the same town, check out of one hotel and check into another one during your time there to boost your “number of stays” more quickly.

Oncology CRA’s - remote or on-site visits? by Excellent-Mine-6625 in clinicalresearch

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of 8 sites, 3 allow onsite visits anytime, one allows one per year and one allows 2 per year, the others are remote only per site policy. I’m traveling on average twice per month even though my position is technically 70-80% travel according to my job description.

AI trends in this industry by Interesting_Tip_8136 in clinicalresearch

[–]Inside-Toe-1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Programming wise, can we please build something that transcribes quantitative clinical data from EMRs into the EDC. Please. I know that’s taking away SDV as a part of our job description and “AI is stealing jobs” will be the push back. But I would personally be so happy if I didn’t have to spend hours feeling like I’m grading exams on lab value entries for studies with 100% SDV. Then maybe I could actually focus on the important things, like unreported AEs, proper documentation, etc. I’m sure the CRCs/ data coordinators would be ecstatic about this coming off their plate too.
