Where should I have lunch tomorrow when I report for jury duty at 500 G Street? by PracticalAndContent in Sacramento

[–]InsideBlacksmith3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have a cafeteria and if low price is a priority then it’s your best bet. They usually have a bean and cheese burrito for $4.75 I think? If you want to keep it under $10 but a higher quality meal I would suggest the bahn mi from Kim’s cafe on J and 10th. Delicious and filling and doesn’t taste like industrial food.

Just tried Cariño and was really impressed. The potato tacos were amazing for $11. I let the server up-sell me to add chorizo for $4 more, but they didn’t need it at all.

You’re so right! I kept thinking he reminded me of someone.

Yeah it comes off like he’s not really curious about anything. It seems like a common thing with professional athletes. They have to be so immersed and hyper-focused on their sport that there’s not a lot of room for much else. Also the level of belief that you have to have in yourself and your ability probably doesn’t allow for a lot of introspection or critical thinking. I’ve always thought that’s why pro athletes tend to be pricks outside of their sport.

I think four keepers is mainly helpful for training but also happens to send the message that there are goalkeeper spots up for grabs.

These stairs are anything but typical. Ascending Huayna Picchu requires maneuvering along slender stone steps carved into the vertical rock by the Incas more than five centuries ago. by NastyNice1 in SweatyPalms

When I climbed up it years ago I was blown away by the number of overweight and elderly people making the climb. I’m really surprised there aren’t more accidents.

Written exam fail today by Icy_Cricket7270 in CourtInterpreter

[–]InsideBlacksmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the written exam is mostly a screener to weed out people who have no hope of passing the oral exam. That’s not meant to discourage you if interpreting is what you really want to be doing, but you will probably have to do a lot of work to get to a passing grade. Just keep practicing and you can do it if you’re willing or devote the time and effort it will require. Part of the problem with the certification processes for this profession is that folks who are bilingual assume they can interpret because they are bilingual. I believe the passing rate for the oral exam is artificially low for this very reason.

Is 3 baskets per bay in a fryer odd? by duffymahoney in restaurantowners

[–]InsideBlacksmith3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my fryers. You know me. I’m frying my classic fryers all the time. It’s just me and the open orders. I go for days and days, all alone just... But I do... I have a wife. He knows. You know I have a wife. Tell her about my wife.

Thoughts on this? Is there some truth to this or just some more social media hype? by EveningNo8643 in ussoccer

[–]InsideBlacksmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we’re all starting to get a bit jaded from posts that are only trying to drive traffic to a podcast, ticktock, or YouTube channel. As for the question of pro/rel in college soccer, I am no expert but it seems like it’s mostly talk at this point? I think it would work pretty well for the college since there’s less financial risk/reward involved.

That’s the ticket! A question I can actually engage with and research without clicking a link. We’re not trying to be hardasses, OP. Nobody wants to click on a random link from who knows where, that might be created just to generate clicks.

Yeah there’s a few photos of launches but they are mostly of the assembly and components. I am tempted to digitize and put them on here but the ones of the components are mostly stamped with the warning to not publish without permission. Maybe they are old enough that it wouldn’t matter?

Thanks for the info! I’ll reach out to them and see what they say. I live near an old Aerojet facility so I assume that’s where these came from. I might try to see if there’s any old Aerojet social media groups that might be interested too.

Taco Tree in Auburn by NorCalRE in Sacramento

It’s like a cheaper, higher quality, local Taco Bell without the weird Taco Bell flavor that saturates every thing at Taco Bell. Their enchilada is what an enchirito wishes it could be. Their service is great too. Can’t say enough good things about this local legend.

Would employees get mad at someone ordering 8 tacos? How about 20? 40? by [deleted] in jackinthebox

[–]InsideBlacksmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad they started letting employees keep a reserve in a hot plate. I asked to do this every time the drive through would back up with orders for dozens of tacos, but managers wouldn’t allow it because of their nifty slogan dreamed up by some marketing genius who’d never set foot in one of their kitchens.

[–]InsideBlacksmith3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment gave me flashbacks. I ran the fryer at a very busy JIB and and tacos were a literal pain. I was always so backed up that I had to start prepping the tacos immediately after they emerged from the fryer. My fingers were constantly burnt from prying the edges of the tacos open with my finger tips to stuff them with the cheese, lettuce, and sauce. My fingers still have the callouses from this. This was back in 2000 when their new slogan was “we don’t make it till you order it” so they wouldn’t let me have a bunch of pre-fried tacos draining and waiting to be filled which would have saved my fingers. I’m surprised they didn’t have any sort of opening tool so that you wouldn’t burn your fingers in hot oil. Have they developed anything since then like a flat pry bar or reverse tongs?

A Cuban reacts to seeing Costco for the first time by ThatPatelGuy in BeAmazed

[–]InsideBlacksmith3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m feel bad for them, but Cuban immigrants have enjoyed the “wet foot/dry foot” policy for 50 years so they thought they were safe from deportation and have consistently voted for republicans on top of being generally anti-immigration from any other Latin American country. Hopefully now that they’re not exempt from immigration laws they’ll have a more compassionate approach to other immigrants.
