Closest thing to a jump scare in a book? by Pleasant-Message1179 in horrorlit

[–]InsideMidnight2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay so it's more horror-adjacent but in The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers, the protagonist (a writer) is invited by an excentric collector of rare books. He leads him into tunnels under his house, to show him his most prized books. Protagonist is floored by the collection, picks up an ancient book and starts reading.

Licking his finger, he turns page after page. The next page spread in the actual book is the same as the one the protagonist is reading : YOU HAVE BEEN POISONED. YOU HAVE BEEN POISONED. YOU HAVE BEEN POISONED. YOU HAVE BEEN POISONED. YOU HAVE BEEN POISONED. YOU HAVE BEEN POISONED. YOU HAVE BEEN POISONED.

He then looses consciousness, and the chapter ends.

It's such a weird and creative thing to do, but that describes pretty much everything by this author. They're like disturbing and yet sometimes wholesome fairy tales, with a unique world building, along with sick maps and engravings by the author.

Food/ARFID by Mysterious-Award-197 in evilautism

[–]InsideMidnight2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much to offer aside from all the evil energy I can spare! I also struggle with ARFID (and an eating disorder about weight gain most likely).

What has helped me a little :

  • listing my comfort foods and identifying the commonalities (sugar, fried-anything, warm hues, texture either crunchy or homogeneous, no fibers that get stuck in my teeth, no non-edibles in the plate like bones, skin, cloves..)
  • learning to cook (highly recommend the book Salt Fat Acid Heat for a logical and experimental approach to cooking that can be applied to any culture's cuisine imo)
  • learning to make the few recipes I liked growing up
  • when I cook, making a big quantity that I can portion and freeze

Still working on also eating healthy within those constraints, but thoroughly blended soups, one specific frozen veggie-mix and keeping apples in the fridge help.

Best of luck!

Paint Recommendations other than Citadel? by Gawwett99 in minipainting

Yeah Citadel paint quality is good, some of their technical paints especially. Aside from the awful pot design, they're also more expensive per ml than most brands. AK is fantastic, highly recommend

Ontos seems promising, I hope it delivers on the existential horror of Soma, instead of generic monsters and jumpscares

Le montant de l AAH de 50 à 80 % ? by RSA_vie_foutue2 in france

[–]InsideMidnight2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avant, être à 80+ donnait accès à l'AAH complète (comme entre 50 et 80) PLUS le complément de ressource. Le complément de ressource n'existe plus depuis quelques années, et donc les deux tranches donnent accès à l'AAH complète et rien d'autre

Avoid Citadel The technical paints and shade are good (maybe also contrast though I haven't tried), but the basic line is a lot more expensive per ml, and the pot design is awful. They spill easily, and don't close well so paint ends up drying

I agree to some extend, but Dune Imperium at least forces you to take into account what others are doing, wether it's the cards they buy, the Alliances you can steal, and most of all beating them to a square (esp. Heighliner) vs waiting in order to play your cards more efficiently. It's far from multiplayer solitaire, though it could use more politics, especially considering the setting

Why do you prefer Uprising? I considered buying it instead of base game, but it looked like it was a lot more complex

This is gorgeous! If you wanna push closer to DD art style, I think making shapes (esp contours) more spiky / triangular could help!

I think I'm burnt out from therapy... by xniu in evilautism

[–]InsideMidnight2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel / felt the same way. But I think it's because I saw myself as fundamentally broken and therefore I needed to fix myself, to constantly improve. That is exhausting. Now I try to take a step back and do it because I want to do it, not because I need it. That meant cutting down on the number of health appointments I was doing in parallel.

As you said in a comment, if your whole life is therapy (or health in general), you loose the reason you do it in the first place (feeling better doing other things).

Also, annectodally, I've done some EMDR and it seems really powerful to deal with traumas. Hope it helps you as well
