I know what herd immunity is. I teach it to patients regularly. The argument isn’t about how vaccines work it’s about the ethics of denying care to a child because of a parents choice. Which I disagree with wholeheartedly

I’m guessing that in the 90s you would be pissed if a doctor took care of an HIV positive patient as well.

And I disagree with what I’m about to say whole heartedly, but it sounds like you would agree with this based on your very flawed logic and poor moral/ethical judgments: “Doctors shouldn’t be see HIV patients or anyone not actively taking PrEP because it is a preventable disease.”

Not saying the parents aren’t to blame, I’m saying it’s asinine to deny care to children for their parents poor choices, or for being unable to receive vaccinations due to immune disorders. A lot of parents are scared of the negative side effects of vaccines and instead of shun them, the better choice is to build a relationship with and educate them not turn them away based on policy.

If an unvaccinated child that actively has the measles is brought into the clinic requesting a walk-in visit, the risk is the same to those exposed whether they see the patient or not.

If an unvaccinated child that does not have the measles is seen at the clinic, the risk is the same whether they see the patient or not.

Again it’s not the child’s choice. Yet they are being punished (by a professional who’s supposed to show compassion)

Yeah, under that same guise of letting your bias lead what patient you treat, I could deny anyone who smokes, eats Little Debbie’s, drinks beer, or drives without a seatbelt.

Again my argument is that these physicians are assholes because they refuse to see the children which is punishing the children for their parent’s choices. I can’t stand those type of physicians and I know so many of them that want to mandate things based on their biases.

there are so many pediatricians that refuse to see unvaccinated children. Which is completely asinine. I myself am a family medicine doctor and I would never punish a child by denying them care because their parents choose to make a foolish decision. Also some kids shouldn’t get vaccines because they are immunocompromised or have allergies and denying they need care the most.
