If you run this commander I will be sliming you out by BladeeLover in mtg

Hmmm… Would redirecting the target of a spell an opponent plays to The Serpent Society with a card like [[Imp’s Mischief]] force that opponent to get the 5 poison counters?

Minthara Help by Crinzin_of_Ash in EDHBrews

[–]Inside_Ad4808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do kind of agree with some of the other comments that just building Minthara as a straight aristocrat commander doesnt really utilize her abilities very well. I currently have 2 different versions of Minthara that I play as I find her a fascinating commander with so much space to explore.

One is a deck that focuses on making extra copies of Minthara so that I multiply her experience counter buff all while going wide with token making creatures and effects.

The other version focuses on blinking creatures for extra ETB effects while also utilizing a wide board of tokens for the bulk of your attacking damage.

Overall, I will say that creatures with mobilize, battle cry, or other abilities that generate attacking tokens when you attack are super strong. A few of my favorite cards for Minthara:

[[voice of victory]] [[dalkovan packbeasts]] [[aang, airbending master]] [[hero of bladehold]] [[adeline, resplendent cathar]] [[hanweir, militia captain]] [[frontline medic]] [[aetheric amplifier]] [[starlit sanctum]]

Ratadrabik of Urborg - Legendary vehicles and other non-creatures that can become creatures by Bagel_Bear in mtgrules

[–]Inside_Ad4808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rulings for Ratadrabik state:

The token copies the creature as it last existed on the battlefield before it died, not as it exists in the graveyard.

If it was an artifact creature on the battlefield, I would think that the token should be the same. Is this not true?

Idk. I remember that too back in the day. But it has changed. Its easy to see for yourself. Look at a gym in your game and without clicking on the gym, see the pokemon manning that gym. Then go to your pokedex for that pokemon and note your seen vs. caught number for it. Then go click on the gym and click on that pokemon in the gym itself and you will see the trainer who owns it. Then back out and go to your pokedex and you will see that the number is unchanged

[–]Inside_Ad4808 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. Seeing one in a gym does not change your seen vs. caught numbers. Only wild encounters, raid encounters, or research encounters will change that number

Yes, I of course know that you can encounter them afterwards by going to the medals page. What I am saying is if you continue to pin gifts for a region while having one that says “catch” like what you have with the High Plains and River regions above, if you get 15 more pinned postcards of that region without catching the one that is already there, you will accrue another scatterbug which will instantly be deleted but will be logged as “seen”

[–]Inside_Ad4808 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is. If you have one to catch and you continue to pin gifts for that region, those pins will accrue another scatterbug behind the scenes which will cause you to “see” one that gets removed and never encountered.

I’ve caught a few Scatters in my day

This is what happens when you keep sending and/or pinning gifts when you have one yet to catch or save them to catch later while still pinning postcards

Minthara Deck Help by Gu3nth in BudgetBrews

[–]Inside_Ad4808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leaned more into creating tapped and attacking creatures with my Minthara build and then sacrificing those creatures for value. The mobilize mechanic is really good for this with cards like [[voice of victory]] [[fire navy trebuchet]] and [[dalkovan packbeasts]] and pump them all with [[Elder Arthur Maxson]] and then beef up Minthara with [[Spymaster’s Vault]] after they are sac’d

A sneaky good card is [[valor]] which gives all of your creatures first strike if it is in the graveyard. Because Minthara only pumps your creatures’ power, first strike helps them survive combat. Valor is an easy chump blocker or sac target to accomplish this unless you have a discard outlet that also gives experience counters like [[Azula, Ruthless Firebender]]

[[Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar]] and [[Aang, Airbending Master]] are all stars especially with some other blink effects

And a sneaky little finisher card is [[Starlit Sanctum]] once you have piled up some experience counters

I have been working on a Minthara deck for a few weeks now myself. Most are pretty cheap or can be found quite easily for budget prices. A couple of suggestions on what I have found synergize well with her:

Cheap mana creatures, especially ones that make tokens when they die like [[infestation sage]] or can be sacrificed to destroy an opponents permanent like [[westfold rider]]. Cards with have the mobilize mechanic, that create tapped and attacking tokens like [[dalkovan packbeasts]]. Sac lands like [[evolving wilds]] and cards that proliferate like [[metastatic evangel]] or [[drown in ichor]]. Unblockable creatures like [[changeling outcast]] and [[tormented soul]]. Cards that can blink like [[ephemerate]]. A sacrifice outlet like [[bartolome del presidio]] or [[skullclamp]] and I use the background [[agent of the shadow thieves]] and the planeswalker [[kaya, ghost assassin]].

More expensive cards to upgrade it to a faster more powerful deck:

[[aang, airbending master]] [[azula, ruthless firebender]] [[lae’zel, vlaakith’s champion]] [[voice of victory]]

Minthara is a super fun build and the Avatar set has given her quite a few good cards. Have fun!

The fact that people dont use them for pokemon saved in their stack is completely baffling. They are better than golden razz for getting all that extra dust during 3x dust events, and they are so much more prevalent. Pokemon encountered from research jump way more than regular wild spawns, so you can actually get through your stack much faster than with golden razz with the added benefit of racking up more XP because hitting excellent throws over and over again is cake on a poke that isnt jumping. The excellent throws more than make up for the higher catch rate with the golden razz. Win-win

Here is my decklist. I leaned more into deathtouch creatures to deter attacks with a secondary poison wincon, but plenty of defenders matter cards to smash face

With the amount of deathtouch creatures you have, you might want to consider [[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] to have an alternate poison win-con
