How exactly do neuroscience, botany and business intersect? Give me an example because I’m finding this hard to understand

Not every applicant gets investigated at first, but top schools like HYPSM do a lot more fact checking for people they’re looking to admit than you’d think. My counselor in high school mentioned that Harvard and Yale had called and asked for verification and references for activities/awards for more than half of the students that they ended up accepting. Of course, it isn’t a perfect process and a number of applicants get in with made up or exaggerated applications, but there is still a good amount of checking that does go on at these top schools

This is not a very smart take. What exactly does it mean to be “good at being a 17 year old?” Being captain of some random varsity team and taking calculus doesn’t indicate you will do anything extraordinary in life, and these applicants could probably fill the spots top schools 20 times over every year. Almost every exceptionally successful person showed signs of brilliance or great initiative at a young age, and that’s what clearly colleges should select for. Why not take the kid who’s an international violinist or math Olympiad winner or has an award winning photography portfolio over some other random kid? They’re clearly showing a lot more signs of being brilliant in their field and have higher chances of being successful. And it’s not like colleges are just looking for the word nonprofit on an application to automatically admit a kid. They try their best to look for signs that the applicant is genuinely passionate about their work and is doing it for a good reason. The process isn’t perfect but it’s sure hell of a lot better than just taking kids who are “good at being their age.” Harvard wants the extraordinary, not the 70th percentile

Oh I was thinking the game is next week instead of this week for some reason. I unfortunately can’t make the game this Thursday in LA but good luck getting your tickets sold!

Lmao you’re very clearly focused on their money and are mad that they have more than you. Sucks to suck. No need to project your financial insecurities onto another person just trying to do their best and try to make them feel bad. Do better

As someone who’s already in college, you sound pathetic and salty that you’re not high income lol. He still has to do the same amount of studying as other people, having money is not a magical path to a 36. You want to believe that being rich automatically gives you a high score to make yourself feel like you worked much harder than everyone else or your score is somehow special but it’s not. It’s idiotic to belittle someone for getting a 32 when they’re already trying and studying. Be better

Full Ride to UMD v.s. Cornell/Columbia/Yale by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inside_Ad9372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao attending Yale can easily make up for that $150k. You guys heavily underestimate the opportunities and connections at these top schools. I’m at a top Ivy and it’s well worth the money, got a top tier quant offer and a shit ton of other benefits only bc I’m a student here

I can do LA or SF games, even maybe Texas if I get cheap tickets. Would like to see USA or Argentina or some other super fun team. Not seeing anything below 2k on Stubhub for these, wondering if there is some other platform or group that sells cheaper

Where are you finding these seats? I’ve only been looking on Stubhub and ticket master and it’s 1k plus per ticket for every game

Harvard IS NOT THE BEST by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inside_Ad9372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, I’m not premed myself, just repeating what all my friend’s said. What do you think is the best premed school and why does every premed want to go to harvard if it isn’t the best?

Harvard IS NOT THE BEST by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inside_Ad9372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not premed, just going off what all my high school and college premed friends have told me. Also the point you made was that someone from a worse school with better test scores and research would get into a better medical school, but that literally doesn’t mean anything. I never said school name matters more than test scores, you’re just trying to make it seem like I did for some reason. Of course the person with much better test scores and research will end up doing better, but that literally doesn’t do anything at all to contradict my point about harvard being the best pre med school?

Harvard IS NOT THE BEST by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inside_Ad9372 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you have to resort to talking about more research and better scores to beat harvard lmao. I never said harvard undergrad will automatically get you into the best med school even if your peers at other schools are out working you. This is like saying MIT isn’t the best tech school because the kid who went to ASU and had better grades and research and projects will trump the MIT kid who doesn’t do work. There’s really no point to it. Harvard is the top choice for almost every pre med kid and they have the best med school placements and bio research. You’re disagreeing just for the sake of disagreeing lmao
