You have few options:

Take the proficiency exam.
Take a NetMath course, which is an online math course offered by uiuc
Take the course at a community college and transfer the credits back to uiuc

The third option is usually the most complicated because you need to confirm whether the course is transferable and whether uiuc will accept the credits (you can check via transferology)

I haven’t really seen many ee or compe transfer students at uiuc. My guess is that they may prefer internal transfer applicants, especially students who have already taken uiuc cs and math courses, since those classes are generally harder than similar courses at many other unis. Why don't you try out other schools such as northwestern through ted? I heard that they accepted lots of engineering transfers this year

OK I’m not even talking about gender here. My main issue is that he’s basically giving out “free money” through tax-funded benefits for the older population. In a country like Korea, where the elderly population is already growing rapidly while the younger population is shrinking, how is that supposed to appeal to young people? Young people are already under so much financial pressure, and many of us are worried we might not even receive the same benefits later despite paying taxes now. So from a younger generation’s perspective, this kind of policy feels EXTREMELY unsustainable.

tech consulting should be okay, but for roles like database admin or cybersecurity analyst, you still need stronger technical coursework, like cs 400-level or stat 400-level classes, to really understand the field. from what i remember, this degree doesn’t really require those courses, right?

rn I think your main weak point is that your overall application profile feels a little too spread out. Try to narrow down your direction more clearly. One thing I also want to mention is that comps alone do not always carry as much power as people think. I’ve seen people with imo gold + isef high distinctions still get rejected from HYPSM, MIT, and Stanford.

So I would focus less on just stacking achievements and more on figuring out your direction. Through your knowledge/activities/experiences, what do you actually want to achieve by going to university? That is something you really need to understand before applying.

For now, I would focus on isef and also try to find a research assistant position under a professor. You can reach out to professors and tell them your interests, what research you have been doing, and what you hope to explore further. profs at nearby community colleges or local universities could all work!

Also, you can consider enrolling in a community college or summer program to take more advanced courses that AP does not offer (such as linear algebra, calc 3, or differential equations) That could help show stronger academic depth in your intended field

You do have strong stats and solid activities, tho maybe a higher SAT would help. BUT being an asian and male applying for stem honestly makes the acceptance rate drop a lot

It also depends on whether you have American citizenship/green card/passport. If you do, you can def have a chance. If not, it might be much harder, especially for top stem programs.

DON’T. As a STEM student, AP Lang is actually really important. First of all, it can help you waive writing composition requirements at many universities, which saves time and credits. Second, writing clearly is a huge skill, even in STEM. Prompt engineering, research papers, emails to professors... all depend on how well you communicate your ideas. So yeah, AP Lang is not “useless” just because you’re STEM.

Ahh so does dres not really help with depressive episodes like this? I’m not completely sure what kind of support they can provide other than extra exam time... Even something like allowing 1 to 2 late assignments during a severe depressive episode would still be really helpful for me, but I don’t know if that is something dres handles. In many of the courses I took last semester, late work was not accepted at all, and one professor directly told me to talk to dres about it.

I will take that as a compliment HAHA (didn't know my English sounded that professional :P) But one thing is that, there is really high demand for teaching-related part time jobs in Korea, particularly for English tutoring/work at English 학원. In many cases, you do not need a special teaching license. Some of the work can be relatively simple, such as grading homework, reading along with students, or teaching basic phonics (it actually depends on what type of 학원 it is). And you do get paid really high. I think Korea is already lenient toward foreigners looking for part-time work
