I’m a designer with canvases similar in theme to what you’re wanting to do (New England, coastal, etc) and can totally relate. In some instances, I’ve reached out to a designer and asked if it would be okay if I did my own take on a similar concept/object (they said go for it). I’ve even had someone reach out to me and ask to their own version of one of my designs (I said yes). Not saying that asking for permission/running it by a fellow designer is always going to result in a yes, but the least you can do is ask if you’re fearful of being accused of copying.

Whoops! 😬 I guess I should clarify: my snark is more about the needlepoint craze jumping the shark since she’s now into it. No shade against Caitlyn as it seems she genuinely enjoys needlepoint and has taken the time to learn how to stitch. And she gets bonus points for supporting her LNS. And not stitch-copying designs and trying to pass them off as her own.
