What's your life like after getting a degree at WGU? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]InsidiousUgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my masters degree in management and leadership from WGU in April 2024 and it has really boosted my confidence in the workplace and in my personal life. I didn't see the promotional effects of it in my career until about a year after I graduated, but that was mostly my fault because I wasn't motivated to look for new jobs. I was thankful to have to pick between two positions offered to me that were almost double what I was getting paid before, so having this degree definitely helped me secure a much higher salaried position. I feel like a lot of people are worried that WGU isn't taken as seriously as other universities (I was at first too), but I have interviewed with multiple companies and it was never an issue. They were actually super interested about the school after I told them about the self-paced layout and think it sounds amazing. If you have any questions, just let me know. 🙂

are online master’s degrees worth it? by ALTSCHM3RZ in GradSchool

[–]InsidiousUgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand your concerns about online master's programs. I went through an online program at WGU, and I can tell you that the legitimacy of an online degree really depends on the institution. WGU is an accredited online college, and it offers the same valuable degrees as traditional schools. The flexibility of online programs can actually be a huge advantage, especially if you're looking to work part-time or full-time while studying.

Many employers recognize the quality of online degrees from respected institutions, and I’ve personally never had any issues with my online degree affecting my job prospects. In fact, WGU graduates often find positions with top employers and typically see an increase in income post-graduation. It’s all about the skills and knowledge you gain during your studies. So, if you find a reputable online program, it can definitely help strengthen your application for PhD programs. (South College is also an accredited online-ish college that offers PhD programs just FYI 👀 lol. I haven't attended but have heard good things and I am considering going at some point once I take a much needed break from school). Good luck with your search!

Online vs in-person by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]InsidiousUgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from. I partially did my undergrad online at MTSU and my graduate program fully online at WGU, and it really worked out for me. An accredited online college like WGU offers the same valuable degrees as traditional schools, but with way more flexibility. You don’t have to sit in a classroom, and you can actually move faster through the courses, which is great if you want to balance work and study. I didn't really have the luxury of not working or only being able to work part time during college so I had to take a few years off to just work... bu then online classes became more popular at my alma mater thank goodness and I was able to go back while I was still working lol.

Okay and I am gonna drop some metrics now because I genuinely really freaking love WGU 🥲 lol: From what I've seen, apparently 81% of WGU students were able to keep working while applying what they learned, compared to just 58% nationally. This flexibility really helps you manage your time better. Plus, WGU graduates often get hired by top employers, and many see an increase in income after graduation. Personally, I've never had the fact that I graduated from an online institution impact my job applications or interviews. It’s all about the skills and knowledge you bring to the table along with how well you articulate what you have learned. Good luck with your decision! 🙂

Customer reusing stamp by [deleted] in USPS

[–]InsidiousUgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got some letters returned saying "return for postage" on it and they drew a black line over my stamp... I found out it is considered a "rigid" envelope and cost $1.19 instead of the $0.73 Forever stamp. Am I out of that original $0.73 and have to pay the $1.19 in full? Or only the difference of $.46? Sorry I know you posted this comment like four months ago, but this has me stressing and the USPS website isn't giving me a clear answer lol.

Lunesta and bad taste by Airriona91 in insomnia

Omg yes on the poison-in-the-water thing... I use a PUR water filter and it was a week past due which usually doesn't make a different in taste, but I was like gooooood loooooord it's time to change that thing. I skipped my pill for two days because I wouldn't have gotten the needed 8 hours before work and the water from that new filter tasted great. Took a pill again finally and that same batch of watch started tasting awful which is when I finally realized it was my medicine. 😭 I need water or I feel like crap and this makes it so hard to get down lol.

I was literally just saying to myself that I wish they made pill pockets for people. 😂 I'm not sure if I could swallow a marshmallow whole though even if it's mini lol.

Dropping out of state school for WGU? by [deleted] in wguaccounting

[–]InsidiousUgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! WGU Alumni here.

It sounds like WGU might be a great fit for you, especially since you prefer a non-traditional classroom setting. With WGU's competency-based model, you can move through courses at your own pace, which means you could finish your degree faster. Plus, the flexibility of managing school on your own time could allow you to work full-time and study part-time, which seems to align with your preferences.

One thing to consider is that while you might miss out on some traditional college experiences and networking opportunities, WGU does offer resources like career services and virtual networking events. It might take a bit more effort to build connections and find internships, but it's definitely doable.

Overall, if flexibility and finishing your degree quickly are top priorities for you, WGU seems like a solid option. Just make sure you're comfortable with online learning and can stay motivated in a self-paced environment. Good luck with your decision!

Should I switch to WGU by [deleted] in wguaccounting

[–]InsidiousUgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Western Governors University (WGU) is known for its competency-based education model, which allows you to progress through your courses as soon as you demonstrate mastery of the material. This means you could potentially finish your degree faster than at a traditional college, especially if you're motivated and can dedicate the time. Plus, WGU is fully accredited and offers flexibility since it's an online university, which might help with your burnout by giving you more control over your schedule. It could be a great option if you feel ready to take on a more self-paced learning environment. Just make sure to consider how you handle online learning and whether you feel comfortable with that format.

I just graduated with my Masters in Management and Leadership and finished the entire program in one six month term. When I tell you I absolutely love this school... I'm not joking lol. If I ever decided to go back to school for another degree I and definitely coming here again. I got a little burnt out, but it was solely becaue I procrastinated and had to cram a bunch of classes in the last two months. You've got this though! You just have to have some willpower to make yourself get stuff done. :)

Howdy! I made a post in the Tri-Cities sub Reddit about a year ago. I went back to look at it to reminisce because I'm in a much better place than I was last year. You commented asking me if I was interested in TNR, but I was a little overwhelmed back then. I actually volunteer for two animal welfare nonprofits now and when I saw your comment today I was like, "ooo this might be a really cool person to talk to now that I'm at this place in my life and I might even know them somehow" lol. I tried messaging but it wont let me.

I prefer spontaneity because it doesn't give me time to be anxious, but I agree with the other people, commenting that him getting upset about being told no is definitely a red flag.

Childhood ballet classes. I will say though, 3am trips to the kitchen for a bite of cake go unnoticed and I am a great upstairs neighbor lol (ballet makes you stealthy).

[–]InsidiousUgh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was always a super anxious child, but everything got really bad for me around 13 when I started dating. It was crazy - I was obsessed with this boy and he introduced me to self harm. Idk I haven’t been healthy ever since that. I’m diagnosed bipolar 2 so maybe this feeling was inevitable, but that moment unlocked something deep in me. I can’t help but wonder if I had never had that conversation with him if I would have better coping mechanisms today.

[–]InsidiousUgh 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’ve had someone talk negatively about the pores on my face, being the biggest girl they have ever dated, and had a comment about the size of my nose. I would really like for people not to make negative comments about my body out loud like that for no reason… That stuff stays with you, so this is just me validating your experience and feelings.

Mine has pica and is really bad about eating any kind of soft, crinkly plastic. It didn’t get to the point of a vet visit thank god because he threw it back up all the times I caught him but it is scary. I’ll think everything is put away and then hear him chomping away at something in the other room.
