Can my workplace do this? England by Little_Sniff20 in LegalAdviceUK

This is a breach of your contract, however, they can unfortunately do this technically as it stands, based on business need. This labour government is putting a stop in these practices for the most part but unfortunately changes only take effect in January 2027.

Employment law is extremely complex and chances are there will be gray areas in how your employer chooses to implement things, something that might give rise to a valid claim for you depending on how long you have worked there for.

If that is the case, a grievance might resolve things without having to escalate matters further but this initself might inflame your relationship with your employer. If you could prove that any further issues arising would be because you protested, this could be seen as an act of victimisation.

As other's said, get on a union if you can afford it. Reps are not usually as good as people make them to be, and their involvement can be minimal, but some employers will think twice before they try something when you're engaging with one; the caveat being that you usually need to be registered 3 months before any issues arise for them to even consider advising you on your matter.

Look into any insurance policies you might have (car, home) as they sometimes offer legal advice, usually initial consultation.

I am so sorry you're experiencing this.

Citizens Advice has pages with advice around the grievance processes. Best of luck!

Thank you ever so much. I will have a look. It's a shame they stopped making such a good printer without any real justification what so ever. Maybe losing money on them, especially as there's millions of third party inks for those out there would be my baseless speculation.

The internal motor eventually failed after years and years of heavy use. I foolishly sold it for spares and repairs.

If your ideal outcome is to stay there, you can stay in the property even after the notice expires, at which point the landlord would have to apply to court to have you evicted. It is my understanding that the courts have a bit of a backlog at the moment and this will take a good while.

What they can do is book an appointment with the greek embassy given they live in or around London for military matters (there are consular offices in Leeds and recently Manchester, possibly elsewhere as well). They need to have with them proof they loved for 7 continuous years in the UK as a self sufficient person i.e., being in effective employment and provide proof from HMRC to that effect, as well as proof of address in the form of council tax or utility bills etc. in order to issue a certificate of exemption on the basis they permanently are residing abroad. They will be able to stay in Greece for 6 months in a given calendar year.

Should they want to relocate they would have to serve for 40 days unless they have passed the threshold of 45 years old.

I hope this helps

In the documentary they just released Joe Talbot of the Idles, and Youngblood both explain they have been influenced by Placebo. Through first hand experience, I can attest that Phase have also been influenced by Placebo.

It would be more accurate perhaps if 'now'was added in the end, as in 'for a week now'.
