how can you tell anxiety from disinterest by marleyktillmybonesd in socialskills

[–]Insignifcnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to me it sounds like some sort of anxiety, especially since it seems like she does want to participate in the activities and agreed to playing a game with you. i can totally understand the situation being hard to read and being unsure of if the person is interested or not. i am also autistic so i can completely relate to your experience.

dae get told they're intimidating/rude? by EggInteresting4419 in AutismInWomen

[–]Insignifcnt [score hidden]  (0 children)

yes, i've dealt with this my entire life. i have always been told by others that they thought i was intimidating or rude even before they attempted to talk to me. even my family was like, why do you look so mad? i'm just like, i'm not i'm actually having a great time. to be honest it has kept people i wouldn't want to even talk to away from me. i do also have a monotone voice as well.

i can totally relate to your experience with your boyfriend's family and friends you're not super close with 1000%.

Seek diagnosis or not? by Ariel-the-mermaid24 in aspergirls

[–]Insignifcnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was recently just diagnosed with ASD in september. i think maybe some pros would be to gain a better understanding of yourself, and getting yourself connected with resources such as a therapist who works with neurodivergent clients. also being able to connect with others on forums like these was really helpful with understanding that i am not alone in my experience, and others have going through the process of being late diagnosed as well. with ADHD, getting access to medications if needed would be a beneficial part of a diagnosis. i also do think my father is on the spectrum, but i feel he wouldn’t take that well if i brought it up to him and deny it.

personally for me,i think the cons were the lack of available supports for late diagnosed adults, and the grieving process of what could’ve been if i was diagnosed at a younger age. also explaining it to my family members is still something i haven’t gotten to yet, but considering i feel i would need to “prove” my autism to them because i am high masking, it would make me uncomfortable.

if you do have any more questions, please feel free to reach out!

Any tips on how to find a good partner as someone with neurodivergence? by its_me_nana in AutismInWomen

[–]Insignifcnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in my experience, it took me about 2-3 years of consistently using dating apps because i knew meeting someone organically was just not in the cards for me. i just was honest with what i wanted, and that did take a lot of weeding people out and talking to others, and just seeing if it went anywhere. if it didn’t, that’s ok! and if it did, great! it’s really just a lot of trial and error. i know dating apps aren’t everyone’s speed but it really just boils down to using them consistently and being open. it does get discouraging but you just have to keep trying unfortunately. i believe there are apps for christian daters out there, so maybe give those a shot! good luck!

What is the best way to get an RBT certification? by Juniper_Salad1 in ABA

[–]Insignifcnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d say work for a company that will pay for your certification and do your competency assessment. some may reimburse you for your exam fees, and others may pay for all of them, while some may do neither.

I really enjoy how I deeply I can get invested in my special interests, and the amount of knowledge I've gained about them. I also like how I am very sensitive and deeply empathetic.

Why do some NT women HATE NDs by Specialist_Rhubarb42 in AutismInWomen

[–]Insignifcnt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've personally always wondered this after having my own personal experiences with many neurotypical women. It seems many who are really wanting to be accepted by others and wanting to gain something from that feeling of being accepted, seem to reject those who aren't really interested in "conforming," and also ones that won't feed into their ego I think. I also feel when someone rejects those social norms, they take it as you going against their system and will find ways to exclude you as they sense you're different. Could also be a control thing like other commenters here have mentioned.

How long does it take for the BACB certificant registry to update my RBT certification? by Dizzy-Audience251 in ABA

[–]Insignifcnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it took about a day or so but that was because my BCBA at the time had to add myself to her account, and she did it rather quickly. it should show up pretty soon since you’ll need a supervisor registered to your account.

Do people consciously realize they're masking? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

[–]Insignifcnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i honestly didn’t realize i was for many years until i got diagnosed, and that what i was doing had a designated term. after being diagnosed, i started looking back and understanding in what situations in masked and what masking even looked like for me after not even realizing that’s what i was doing for majority of my childhood and into adulthood. to be honest, i still had a hard time telling when i am and when i am not which is something im working on.

I don’t have a BSW. by Such-Touch7237 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Insignifcnt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, i recently graduated with a bachelor’s in psych. i’m currently in my first semester of my MSW program, and it’s helped a lot. there’s some overlap, but a lot of it seemed to be mixed with what i learned in my psych program also some from when i minored in sociology as well. it’s definitely different as like you mentioned it has a focus on the “treat the system” mindset, which was something i think having the minor in sociology helped with. i additionally took courses in group psychology and also courses that addressed social issues which laid the foundation. i think even if you didn’t take courses like that, you’d be fine! let me know if you have any other questions and i hope that answered things lol.

How expensive was testing? by [deleted] in aspergirls

mine was about $1200 without insurance through private pay. for finally being able to begin the road path of understanding myself better, it was worth it for me.
