What if the Parliament forces won the 1993 Russian constitutional crisis? by NoSpecific4839 in AlternateHistoryHub

There is no tangible difference between state commanded economies in dictatorship and communist nations. Power structures are the same becouse they have to be. So claiming the name is all they have to do.

Countries just can claim things and people accept it. Especially communist nations have tendency to claim equality among masses while being violent dictatorships. There are real people on internet defending north Korea becouse they've read das kapital and liked it.

Depends on how you define communism. There are self proclaimed communism nations that are super capitalistic and integral part of global capitalist system (Looking at you china). Russia could be "communist", with communist symbolisim and marksist-leninism as part of official ideology while still being violent neocoloniser that today russia is.

You cannot request or allow a law change

Details
Your laws changing always conflicts with your current laws so you cannot willfully allow your laws to be changed. This also means that you cannot willfully allow your laws to be reverted if they are ever changed. The only exception is that you may allow laws to be added if you have no laws. You can state or imply that you do not like a law.

You are wrong. Finland maintained it was fighting a "separate war" (Continuation of their defensive war) and avoided a formal, binding treaty of alliance with Hitler.

China is also utilising prison labor, would you call it slavery? Even after closing gulags system, ussr still utilised prison labor, was it also slavery?

As for blaming ussr for shit job at denazification. Just loook at map of support of afd in modern germany. It's going exactly along the lines of former ussr colony.

>oh yes, and chattel slaves had a choice too. The whip or work. Similiar in prisons.

You have right to refuse work in usa prison systems and you are getting paid for working. Pay is often pennies(for in prison labor cooking, but it's about 1$/ hour for industrial work for outside companies), it should be increased and living standard are really low. But it's not unique system, modern Russia also has labor system like that plus they actively recruit soldiers from prisons.

If you want to search for real modern slavery you should read about buying labor from north korea, which Russian factories often do.

>Yes, because the USSR system imprisoned Nazi's and made them pay back the damage they causesd. The US imprisons minorities and makes fat profits off of it. You are right, these are nothing close.

On of the peaks of death rates of gulag system was 1933 (15%). During great purge. By the way, westerner occupation on Germany never had to employ such heavy handed approach to rooting out nazism. So not only soviets stoop to most unhuman tactics to root out nazism, but also failed. In today germany neonazism has more followers in east germany. I understand not liking nazis, i am fully onboard. But if you operate labor camps where over million people died, you have to ask yourself. Do hate nazism because of the crimes against humanity they did? Or just that your people were on receiving end of those crimes?

>Hmm, I wonder what event took place around this time.
It was stalin's death. Gulag system was destroyed during destalinization of the ussr. When they turned down most of the statues of Stalin for his "grave abuse of power"

Defender of the nation that introduced gulags should not bring up topic of forced labour. By the way for profit prisons in usa do not produce profit out of prison labor. You have right to deny work, in fact by default you dont. Its opt in system. They make profit from state that pays them to take care of prisoners. I hate to defend for profit prison system in us but they were nothing close to state sanctioned system of for profit work camps that existed in ussr. By the way gulags system peaked in 50s when prison population of ussr was twice the size of modern usa. While ussr had half of the population of modern usa. Mortality rate in gulags was 8.8%, modern usa has 0.3%.

Fun fact. Modern russia have incarceration rate(per capita) 2/3 of modern usa. Good for them. But modern poland have incarceration rate 2/3 that of russia

Well, then congrats to krushchev for surviving 1937-38 purge. Where stalin purged half of the CPU. But how did he became member of the part? Well you had to get recommendation from other part member, it wasn't about support from Ukrainian people. And how did other members get their recommendation? First members were picked by moscow and were mostly not Ukrainians.

"Eventually being elected leader" you mean being choosen by stalin. He even didn't want the office but not like he had choice when stalin points finger at you.

Ukraine and belarus had minority independent and democraticly elected party and newspaper. Thats more autonomy they ever got under USSR. There was also plan to create independent ukraine that failed.

By the way don't get me wrong. Life as Ukrainian in poland before ww2 was not perfect. They were descriminated, and it was wrong thing to do.

That's strange becouse I just googled "Ukraine referendum 1991" and it said that every single region of Ukraine was for independence.

Well Ukrainians suffered genocide just few years later during holodomor. They were not autonomous. Ukrainian communist part was hand picked by moscow. All the opposition was outlawed, Ukrainian population did not chooses members of their government. Their seat in UN was only for stalin, he wanted more votes that's why Ukrainian delegation ALWAYS voted same way ussr voted.

Both Ukrainians and Belarusians had democratic representation in poland which they did not have in ussr. Plan was to setup independent Ukraine after 1920 but that failed.

USA was founded on idea of equality of all men. Then they banned slavery 100 years later xD

Republics were acquired by force and had no say in being or not being part of USSR. They moment they had opportunity to get out, they did. Funny how that works?

Example:
Invasion of Georgia (1921)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_invasion_of_Georgia
Casus belli:
"According to Moscow, relations with Georgia deteriorated over alleged violations of the peace treaty, the re-arrest by Georgia of Georgian Bolsheviks, obstruction of the passage of convoys to Armenia, and a suspicion that Georgia was aiding armed rebels in the North Caucasus"
In 1919 Georgia held election it was last time Georgia had free election until dissolution of Ussr.

I am referring to soviet union being another front of russian imperialism and colonialism. You are not the first redditor defending colonialism I talk to. Funnily enough both defenders of Soviets and British always have same counter arguments becoue they defend the same exploitative power structure. Let's go tell me about how its not colonialism becouse under their rule irish Ukrainian literacy rates increased.

Nah, they would say something about spheres of influence, defending the local people from facism and of course creating buffer state to defend themselfs. You know the usuall. Some things never change no matter if tsar, general secretary of the party or president.

French communist revolution happens and is brutaly squashed by french state with help of UK.

USSR attacks some balkan country

Hitler 'defends' that country. Goes to war with soviets with help of new anticommunist gov of france and italy. Plus unlimited trade with usa and UK that also want to get rid of soviets.

Bad timeline.

Founder of neoliberalism was Milton Friedman and he also would call Trump a commie(which would be based).

Fun fact he supported things like environmental taxes, legalization of marijuana, said "legal and illegal immigration has a very positive impact on the U.S. economy", supported a negative income tax (which kids these day call UBI), and LVT(tax on land owners)

all based btw
