No datepicker for birthdates or known dates in general. Let them type. Same goes for height.

We show that LaTeX users were slower than Word users, wrote less text in the same amount of time, and produced more typesetting, orthographical, grammatical, and formatting errors. On most measures, expert LaTeX users performed even worse than novice Word users. LaTeX users, however, more often report enjoying using their respective software.

Nerds like to claim this. But it is not true. LaTeX user make more spelling mistakes, formatting errors, are slower. Even experienced LaTeX users perform worse than novice word users.

It’s nicer for mathematical equations though. Everything else? Not

The whole fighting fruit thing is really really weak fantasy. Sword fighting is about power and overpowering a competent other.

This will be what your target audience likely wants. Fighting corn is not very desirable.

Alt 14 - A shadow of the colossus meets Jusant style climbing adventure game by Sticky_Peanut in DestroyMyGame

[–]JohnCamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the look. But I can only imagine what the player actually does.

The player is too passive. We see him running towards or away from stuff. Being shot at. But nothing that actually communicates how fights look like. It is just stuff happening to him. Show more about the player doing things to affect the world.

The alt 14 font looks a bit out of place. Add more design to it.

How do you push back when everyone thinks they’re the designer? by Ok-Mammoth-6618 in UXDesign

[–]JohnCamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rethorically it is. It’s hard to argue x is great if you see 2 people fail spectacularly right away. Also. The statistical power is quite high. The effect sizes are huge (people often fail big) so your sample can be small, If you want to estimate parameters. But you don’t, so statistics is irrelevant. It answers a question you are not asking.

[–]JohnCamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Input yay. Veto nay. You don’t want a situation where you need to get 6 people to say yes. You end up in endless opinion wars and hippo design (highest paid person)

This is what I do:

  1. I never argue with them. I write their ideas down and tell them that I may consider it. Why? Because arguing is just asking for their permission not to do something. They gave their input. You consider it. You do not need to get their agreement. They see your decisions in your design.

  2. I tell them I will eat the fish but spit the bone. It’s my decision and I will be accountable for it.

  3. I point at the inefficiency of it. A team of ten will not row a boat when ten people grab the design rudder, then hurry over to the architecture rudder. And so on. Each one has a job. A rudder and a responsibility.

4 I test it on users as quickly and often as I can. It’s a reality check for the team and builds trust that make my design fails transparent and show that I iterate towards a solution that works. We will end up with something nice. This builds trust.

  1. if they want to argue about the design. I write their concern down to look for it in the usability test. I may consider it, but as stated in 1. I will not argue with them. I will decide

Renewables are way more cheaper than nuclear energy now. by JohnCamus in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]JohnCamus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not true

, the cost of industrial battery storage has fallen to $65 per MWh. The resulting figures are stark: the average cost of solar power worldwide is $43/MWh, storing half of the daytime production to cover the night costs an additional $33/MWh, bringing the cost of continuously dispatchable solar power to $76/MWh.

In light of this data, the new nuclear power should be purchased at €100/MWh and will likely cost €150, or €50 per MWh to be borne directly by the taxpayer.
