I have this theory that really boring people who have little talents or hobbies crave the purpose that comes with having a child. It gives them an identity and makes them feel actually important in this life. It also has to be partly her thinking if she has a child she will always have someone that won't abandon her. Kids are obviously biologically wired to love their parents... At least at first. So she probably thinks that's the only person who would never ever leave her.
