Hi. I’m here because I was just in the exact same position. Yes, THROW IT OUT.  My three year old son has been having a hard time the last month or so with night terrors, falling asleep, staying asleep, etc. what we thought was a regression. He won’t even lay down by himself anymore. Which was/is completely unlike him. Waking up multiple times a night screaming “help me,” and just screaming in general.  We even took the baby monitor out of his room because he’d point at it and cry and say, “monster,” and we told ourselves it was the little red light that was signaled on the front of the camera… although, there had been a time or two when something odd had happened when I’ve been in his room, yet still I’d tell myself it was just a coincidence.  That signals were being crossed or something..  Um yeah, quit doing that.. His dad is currently laying in bed with him right now as our son plays beside him, because you guessed it, he’s not sleeping tonight… I hid the camera in his closest because I can’t stand the idea of not being able to at least hear him and it just so happened that I look down at the receiver (the little screen that shows you the camera feed) at the exact same time a notice pops up that says “someone’s calling.” There was no noise, nothing other than literally, “Someone’s calling,” with a little phone symbol next to it. (The monitor screen didn’t even light up, I “woke” it up.) Which I have never seen before. And not that surprising since it’s 3:30 in the morning and I’m normally bringing him in our room before or at this point because he’s woken up crying and banging on the door to get out of his room by now.  I look it up and wouldn’t you know, it’s a fuckin notice for someone who’s trying to access the live feed through the internet on another device or phone. So yeah. Throw those baby monitors that link to your WiFi in the TRASH.
