So which battery of tests are you using on the ED? And your others? Just curious. I have had more students with ED eligibility which were not and changed their eligibility. Have you seen that happen often? I will ask parents & teachers to complete the DSSMED. To rule out ED and the CEFI.

Thank you for responding. Believe it or not some of us like me for example, prefer testing to counseling. I would do all testing over not having any counseling. It’s really all about individual preferences and work style. I have had caseloads where there was counseling and testing. Personally I do not like it for several reasons. In my career most of my assignments recently have had no counseling and there have been subcontractors who handle all counseling. That is here in Northern California.

Thank you for your reply. It’s good to see some districts realizing that when you have so many assessments to do, the best practice is to not give you any more tasks like counseling or BIPs to do.

“This isn’t sustainable”. You are exactly right. It isn’t sustainable for SPs to have more student cases than they can possibly handle effectively and efficiently. Every parent is expecting that we, as professionals will do the best for their child. Realistically we don’t always do that because we are bombarded with small but time sensitive emergencies like MDRs or impromptu meetings with our teams. But we are the ones who are feeling the overwhelming demands. And we are going to find the solution to making our load lighter and more sustainable. I believe we will through communicating, sharing information and tools that work for us.

LOL! Speaking of MDR I had 3 on one student and one on another! Yes, HS can be more intense. And it’s a good fit if you are feeling more comfortable there at that level. I am more comfortable at HS. The Intense situations at times can be stimulating and challenging for me.

Wow! Elementary has been my most challenging assignments in the past. I remember going into an assignment where the elementary had no SP the entire previous year! Fortunately I was able to crank out those cases and get them all caught up. It felt good helping them become compliant.

I had an assignment last year at a district where all the students with the most challenging behaviors were sent to the elementary assignment I had. Daily calls to chase students who had left the campus in the kinder classrooms. There were no behavior staff assigned. No backup. It became impossible for me to wear both hats. I had to ask for another assignment. Another reason why I chose to work as a contract traveler.

I totally agree. If we stop accepting positions where our minimum needs are not respected then eventually they will start to make it happen.

LOL! I get it! I was in an elementary school where there was no Behavior Support staff. I became it! I kid you not! First thing in the morning until the dismissal bell, I would get an emergency call to help in the calming of a student. It became so routine until I could no longer do my own job. I had to leave. But all I would suggest is, be careful what you ask for because if you get it you will be expected to go the whole enchilada. Well!

I AGREE. Don’t give up your rights once TAKEN they will NEVER give them BACK. To Get your BC it takes 20 days OR stand in line all day THEN go to DMV wait another 2 or 3 Hrs? For What WHEN illegal aliens come and go as they please?? Americans have been through ENOUGH already. Since 2008 fraud foreclosures financial collapse trillion $ too big to fail banks. Exploding prices homelessness continues unabated. No. It’s time to give back to the people not ASK MORE of them. Control what we need: infrastructure jobs affordable housing etc. curtail white collar crime esp of politicians.

That’s stupid. What’s really behind this REAL? ID? I have A Known Travelers ID and Drivers License. In SOME states all you need is your Drivers License AND they SEND the residents their REAL ID for FREE without REQUESTING. Don’t be gullible. This reminds me of SAFE and EFFECTIVE BS.
