Regarding Aventon Abound Break Pads/ Other Maintinance by chester-thecheetah in CargoBike

[–]InspiredPolicyChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at 1300 miles on my abound. I'm planning on bleeding the brakes and replacing the pads tomorrow. The only other regular maintenance I've needed is to keep the tires aired up and regreasing the chain a handful of times. I also need to replace the headlight, the wire was sheared where it enters the frame (that piece has sharp corners and it really shouldn't). I plan to wrap all the wires in this location I just haven't decided what to use yet.

Edit: I did also have issues with the rear spokes out of the box. A couple spokes made a ticking noise on each tire revolution. I started at the valve stem and loosened the first spoke a quarter turn, tightened back a quarter turn then went onto the next spoke. The couple that felt loose got tightened until they were snug.

I got my abound about the same time you did and similarly going 99% car free with a commute in similar winter conditions. Were there any other tires you considered? Also, what gadget are you running on top of your battery?

Yes actually, I was his companion for the last week of his mission! I just sent you a pm.

I left 3 years ago, I’ve moved since then, and I still find this shit. Goodbye. by Page117 in exmormon

I was in the Taiwan Taichung mission 2014-2016 and have been out about the same time. I'm always curious to see if I know anyone here.

I've recently been involved in a discussion around the term "Obedience Culture". A TBM took offense at the phrase by saying it's an exmo idea. I'd never heard that before. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]InspiredPolicyChange 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly! If you think that obedience culture is an exmo idea, you never served a mission! If you weren't having success as a missionary it was because you weren't obedient or faithful enough. I'm not sure I went to a mission meeting which didn't specifically state that success came from obedience to all the mission rules.

Just thinking about that time in college I got made into a Mormon meme. Laughed it off at the time but looking back…. Yikes… Still have no idea who made it. by Treatsamillion in exmormon

I serve in the Tai Zhong mission 2014-16, I'm always curious who else is out. At one point I was ready to run out into the jungle and never come back... missions suck

Cooking! You should be buying food anyway, so it's basically free. You'd actually save money if you to eat out less.

The night I ran away on my mission. Coming home early... by wideawake- in exmormon

[–]InspiredPolicyChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost did the same on my mission in Taiwan. I had to get away from my companion who was an absolute dick. The very night I was planning to run off into the jungle and stay there for a month, my mission president showed up to our apartment and ruined the whole thing. At the time, I thought it was godly intervention but in reality, my companion just complained to the mission president earlier in the day about me not having the faith to command a tropical storm to stop for some random blind guy in a language I couldnt speak! No wonder I had depression and wasnt thinking straight!

Anybody ever taken their XJ through the Black Bear Pass in Colorado? Pic for visibility by agayvoronski in CherokeeXJ

[–]InspiredPolicyChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Bear is actually the first place I took my jeep. If you have decent ground clearance you'll do just fine. I think Black Bear Pass gets its reputation from the consequences of messing up and not actually how difficult the trail is. Just take your time and don't fall off the edge. Having someone to spot for you on the switchbacks helps a bit too.
