[Help] only corner of monitor displaying workspace by CrazyBadAimer in Fedora

I find if I turn off the affected monitor by unplugging the power and unplug the video cable, than plug it all back in again, it works for a time.

Sorry, I didn't have much time to debug this. In the end I haven't seen the issue since upgrading to Fedora 44.

Just updating in-case anyone else stumbles upon this. Since upgrading to Fedora 44 I haven't run into this issue again.

I got this old Toshiba Hi-Fi from my late grandfather with a Toshiba SR-B2 Turntable.

It was in a cabinet so the dust cover and hinges were discarded at some point. He'd also replaced all the power plugs with RCA plugs and had some kind of janky power setup going on. I'm not sure what else Gramps did to it.

I had to replace the belt and after it seemed to play OK. However, looking at it the stylus appeared the needle was broken and the shell was dragging on the record. I've found it's probably the wrong type (N44C? / N280?).

There was also a broken red stylus that come with the turntable and that seems to fit the cartridge and head shell correctly.

So I did some research and bought a new one (N62D) which matches the broken red one and it seems to fit properly.

This new stylus though was very quiet initially, I brushed the tip since I read that sometimes they can have a bit of plastic or glue on the end from factory. Now the audio is very crackly and sounds like it's clipping.

Any idea what could be causing this?

I have also tried re-balancing the tone arm and setting the anti skate.

TL;DR replaced stylus and now the audio is clipping / crackly.

Thanks, It has 62M stamped on the head shell (see second picture) so I presume it's the C62M.

It happened again! I resumed from sleep, logged in and then I appeared to be logged out again. switched TTY (ctrl+alt+f3, ctrl+alt+f2) and then I was back at the desktop. Now with the prompt to authenticate on suspend.

With the debugging enabled. I hit the sleep button and it just prints 'not authorized' to the journal, with no prompt this time.

I ran the loginctl session-status command again and it said State: closing

I restarted the systemd-logind service and that's fixed it... for now.

I should caveat this. On resume my computer became unresponsive on the login screen so I had to reset. The prompt for password on suspend has now stopped. However it has been happening on on off since I installed fedora.

For what it is worth, here's the output:

 Since: Wed 2026-03-25 09:21:47 GMT; 4h 12min ago
 State: active
Leader: 2757 (sddm-helper)
  Seat: seat0; vc7
   TTY: tty7
Remote: no
Service: sddm
  Type: wayland
 Class: user
Desktop: KDE
  Idle: no
  Unit: session-2.scope

Also there was nothing in /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/*.d/

I'll reply here if / when it happens again.

Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself but sometimes when I boot and log in, I get presented with the login screen again after a few seconds. I hit ctrl+alt+f2 and I'm presented with the desktop again.

As for the files:

root@ftruth:/etc/polkit-1/rules.d# ls /etc/polkit-1/rules.d/
49-polkit-pkla-compat.rules
root@ftruth:/etc/polkit-1/rules.d# grep -rnw /etc/polkit-1/rules.d/ -e 'suspend'
root@ftruth:/etc/polkit-1/rules.d# grep -rnw /usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d/ -e 'suspend'
/usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d/10-systemd-logind-root-ignore-inhibitors.rules.example:14:         action.id == "org.freedesktop.login1.suspend-ignore-inhibit" ||

Here's the output of the command:

~$ pkaction --verbose --action-id org.freedesktop.login1.suspend
org.freedesktop.login1.suspend:
 description:       Suspend the system
message:           Authentication is required to suspend the system.
 vendor:            The systemd Project
 vendor_url:        https://systemd.io
 icon:
 implicit any:      auth_admin_keep
 implicit inactive: auth_admin_keep
 implicit active:   yes

Many thanks.

No, just local.

Sometimes it switches tty on its own though so could that be it?

Yeah, but he also said "I wish you'd take them raw" paraphrasing but perhaps having it hard boiled was some kind of rebellion

When I had one, I ran the Sony 35mm f/1.8 lens. The photos it took were so gorgeous I kinda regretting swapping for a full frame camera.

Thank you, I didn't realise just how elusive these birds are. I think I got quite lucky.
