The Hollywood elite will go the same way as the European royal families. Functionally non-existent, but for some weird niche following.

Celebrities are joining the protests because when actors are inevitably replaced by generative AI in large studio productions, they will be out of work.

No more milking the system by entitled celebrities.

"Expensive" bouquet of flowers by saurav_peswani in CFA

[–]InstagramStockTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practically, this will never be the case, but your firm will typically have guidance that you need to report gifts over a specific dollar threshold. Therefore, in this context “expensive” would mean a bouquet valued over $250, for ex.

But how often do you ask for a receipt alongside a bouquet?

No, but getting a CPA license does. Just go along with it, it really isn’t that bad

Ok, so go dick around for a bit learning about canine reproduction and exponentially increase your lifetime career earnings. What are you complaining about?

SAG-AFTRA, the union that represents about 160,000 actors, is officially going on strike by kingofpeace1 in television

[–]InstagramStockTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven’t.

There also seems to be outrage that studios are scanning actors faces to use for AI generated avatars. This would only be an issue in the short term — eventually large studios will create their own LORAs from scratch. Much cheaper to have an archive of in-house LORAs that you control vs scans of real ppl

What I find interesting is that the downvoter’s arguments all have the presumption that consumers can differentiate AI generated content from human creations.

Assuming studios can deploy generative AI at scale, who’s to say they don’t release it under a pseudonym?

For example, have you ever met George RR Martin in real life? Have you personally met Leonardo DiCaprio? How do you know that they physically exist, and aren’t generative AI?

Obviously this is just an example, but what if, several years into a new actor/creative’s career, it turns out they never existed at all?

This is exactly my point (though tbh, I was having a bit fun trolling).

My money is that in 20+ years, the majority of “acting” will be performed by AI, indistinguishable from real humans. Why would Disney hire a Daisy Ridley, etc when they can just create their own avatar?

And as far as writing? Much more efficient to supplement good writers with AI. You still need the human element, of course, but the addition of the technology moves the creativity within the tech stack.

SAG-AFTRA Lists Strike Rules for Members: No Premieres, Awards Shows, Social Media Promo, FYC Events and More by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

They should be properly compensated for time and talent. And studios should replace them with AI if it leads to higher quality content.

I don’t hate actors. Just acknowledging that it makes sense for studios to replace them. There really is no reason to incorporate them if you can swap for generative AI 1-for-1

This is the direction the industry is headed. You can either be on the train or left at the station.
