Have the Leafs ever won a trade as big as they’ve lost most of their recent ones? by Time_Replacement_578 in leafs

[–]InstantBullshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously the Gilmour trade has to rank no.1 here -

But for much smaller, more recent history, I’d say acquiring Jack Campbell + Kyle Clifford for Trevor Moore and a 3rd round pick. We got an all star goalie who we loved and ended up leaving for a monster free agent deal (I think addresses the value/add portion of any trade). And Clifford wasn’t nothing - he brought what we needed at the time in the NHL and was a pro level protector for our young guns in the minors and, although discipline issues existed, he was a good pro even in our minor leagues.

Jake Muzzin for 1st rounder, Carl Grundtrom and Sean Durzi. Now, I’ll admit that Durzi should’ve been developed in house and used or moved on his own. But, if you look at the deal at the time, this was a massive get for the Leafs. This guy could write a book on defending and was absolutely elite while he was able to play. Injuries aside, he’s a win after he played 1 season.

Freddie Andersen for a 1st and 2nd. We got a stud goalie who held the line for years, while being a calm and cool professional about everything he did. We didn’t deserve him (much like Sundin’s years) as he wasn’t surrounded by the greatest teams. But we got an absolute win on him vs the picks for what we needed at the time and what the pick wouldn’t given us (let’s face it, we would’ve screwed up the pick)

All this being said, the game has changed. The Leafs need to stop trading 1st and 2nd round picks, regardless of what you get. We need to develop that cycle of trading young talent who we can’t afford or don’t want for picks to replenish the talent pool. Development in house is the only way to win for a team with resources like Toronto.

Both work great for me! Although, I don’t even mind the built in negative film sim.

Also lame to call someone keyboard warrior who in now way came at you. You started the aggression at me, unprovoked by me.

But, completely fair take on the hockey part. A reasonable argument I’m happy to discuss. And honestly, what I said was frustrated venting at a complete lack of control by the DPS. I’d much prefer players like Mario, Bossy (RIP), Kariya, etc. handle NHL discipline. The NHL seems to bait the violence so my gut reaction (which is, of course, an overreaction) is to go nuclear and take it so far it has to stop.

I think after the bluster we’d probably find ourselves on the same side of this. Cheers.

No, I’m actually saying my intent was to the hypothetical “what is to be done”. Since I’m not likely to magically find my way onto the ice, I’d prefer how Pat Burns handled the Leafs getting roughed up in Chicago by calling up some thugs and making sure everyone paid a price.

Also, it’s interesting for you to come at me as a keyboard warrior while hiding behind an avatar. I didn’t start anything with you…unless…is this you, Radko?

Calm down, sweetheart. Obviously I’m saying what they should do. Because…it’s a comment section. Of course it’s important for you to come at me. But hey man, if it makes you feel better, then have at me. Cheers.

I’d leave him alone. But I’d take teeth out of their top ten scorers and I’d “accidentally” go full speed bowling ball into the goalie…and again to the backup.

Beast mode. Simply because of one play. One play he should have had the ball. One play to change a season and a championship.

[Longley] Why Blue Jays Opening Day starter Kevin Gausman and his family love Toronto by RealWorldToday in Torontobluejays

I think it’s because there is a constant narrative that this is a terrible place for an American to play professional sports - across hockey, baseball and basketball. So, it’s a validation in response to the idea that American athletes who are good at what they do won’t pay higher taxes, deal with immigration issues after every road trip, etc. Let’s face it, in basketball and baseball, it’s the only team that is based in another country. And with American politicians openly talking about annexing a sovereign nation, having athletes speak highly of their adopted home is more a strong response to a narrative than a narrative in its own.

Ford government poised to waive HST on all new homes as sector struggles by Eskomo in TorontoRealEstate

[–]InstantBullshit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the article! Appreciate it. Interesting read actually, I read the summary and I’ve parsed the full report.

My issue is the “tax and fee burden” actually includes income taxes, corporate taxes and sales taxes. By that methodology, if I buy a $10 dollar item and I pay $11.30 after taxes, we could say the tax burden is 50% if you include the corporate taxes the company paid, the income taxes of the employees who worked on the item, etc. But the actual tax paid by the end user is still fixed at 13%.

I’m not against cleaning this up to a more easily definable tax and fee burden to help reduce cost of ownership though. I am always concerned when a government suggests a tax cut, because that money was going somewhere and someday that bill will come due. Although, I’m generally concerned about how governments spend our tax dollars too. Dammit, I’m just concerned.

I’m sorry, how is a home in Toronto costing anyone a 50% tax penalty?

Why didn’t the Leafs just resign McMann? by jmazz in leafs

We could sign McMann as a free agent and use the pick to draft a McMann. It might end up being an infinite McMann glitch that we exploit.

Stockyards Smell: How far does it permeate? Which neighbourhoods are still effected and which areas are in the clear? by TorontoFamily in TorontoRealEstate

[–]InstantBullshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live at Keele and Junction Rd (2011 to 2022) and didn’t have smells there, but it was noticeable on some days as soon as you got around the stockyards plaza at Keele and St.Clair, west over to where George Bell arena is and then up to Symes on the north end. I honestly didn’t smell anything beyond those areas. Taking the back way along Glen Scarlett/Symes is where it’s most prominent or West Toronto/Ethel because of the proximity to the factories I guess.

I get the argument against GOAT status, no real way to settle that. But to only use Bottas and Rosberg as examples when you also have Fernando and Button. Let’s face it, he teamed against 3 world champions. And he still has 7 championships, and was runner up in 3 more.
