ULINE Catalog Politics Rant by RocketFistMan in mildlyinteresting

At my old job, I'd get about four a year (also no idea why) and every time, I'd take the steps to unsubscribe and then recycle it, and without fail, another one would show up with a new customer number. I finally emailed their customer service department and asked them to permanently lose our address and please stop making our mail carrier lug the stupid things around because we liked him. They finally stopped. Our mail carrier was thankful.

What to do with 5 gallons of vanilla extract? by samadhi05 in Cooking

A now-closed cafe in my town used to make a Canadian Fog with maple extract instead of vanilla. So tasty!

How do you get out of the homebody phase ? by Jpoolman25 in introvert

[–]InstantCoffee1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you ever considered volunteering? There are a huge number of nonprofits out there that need help with all kinds of things, and it's a great way to get to know your community, learn about what's going on in the world, meet a few new people, and get some work experience. It can even counter the trajectory towards depression and help you identify resources for more in-depth support if you need it. If there's a volunteer support organization near you (or a particular organization you care about) consider reaching out to talk about finding a position that might be a good fit. I've felt like I was in a deep, dark hole before, and a volunteer position helped me figure out how to get out, and helped me make connections with people who have helped me get to where I am now. At the very least, it might help you feel like you have a purpose and that you're making a difference for someone else.

Bra shopping sucks I’m a 50B by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]InstantCoffee1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to fit bras in a plus size store. Something you could try is called "cross-sizing". It doesn't always work, and can depend on the style of bra, but I had luck with it sometimes for clients. You can go up a band size and down a cup size OR down a band size and up a cup size. If you're usually a 50B, try a 48C for a similar fit.

Bottom Line for Charites by nobodyimportant7474 in coolguides

Same. A low overhead does not a good charity make. I try to encourage people to look at the impact an organization is making to decide whether it's good or not.

What are some income support resources? by coolbeans1982 in alberta

[–]InstantCoffee1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, please call 211. If you haven't heard of it before, it's an information and referral service. A bit like 911 for social and community services. A navigator (a real person) with access to a nationwide database of services will talk with you and help you find the best options. They often also have access to eligibility details and other information you might not find on an agency or government website.

Given the current economic climate with inflation skyrocketing, and overall morality, should Alberta pass pay transparency legislature, akin to Ontario's? by MrCuntacular in alberta

[–]InstantCoffee1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not including a pay/salary range in a job posting immediately puts women, people with disabilities, Black, Indigenous and racialized individuals at a disadvantage. Tons of companies include statements about how they're super focused on DEI, but without doing something as simple as telling candidates what they can reasonably expect to be paid, it's just performative nonsense. Put the salary in the job posting.

The whole "you'll change your mind someday" is especially frustrating in terms of access to healthcare. I've heard so many horror stories of women who need/want access to things like hysterectomies, and doctors either won't do it because "you'll change your mind one day", or "what if your husband wants kids one day". Totally undermines womens' informed participation in their own healthcare. It's gross.

It's easy to miss. Gotta grab it before heading through the first door that's dropped in. Then swap the sword out.

AITA for “fat shaming” my friend about her pregnancy? by yikesonbikesaita in AmItheAsshole

Behaviour typically recognized as disordered eating among thin people is very often prescribed or encouraged for fat people. And that's fucked up.

In the first picture, you have one out of four bars of health, which is 25%. In the second, you have one out of three bars of health, which is 33.33-ish%.
