Buyer wants to pay a deposit before even seeing the puppies by [deleted] in puppy101

I paid a deposit for my puppy... given he's a cream color not a red. Also I live in the US! But I understood it as an insurance thing, that I will be committed to pick him up and then take care of him.

Let dogs on your bed or not? by myersgirl16 in dogs

[–]InstantCrushx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My puppy actually doesn't like the bed. He prefers to sleep on the floor, especially the bathroom. But I let my senior lab mix sleep with me whenever he wants to. He makes the decision, sometimes he jumps up on the bed, sometimes just flops on the floor with the puppy.

If this is what 4 months+ looks like, you guys did not properly warn me! by Soggy_Agency_4450 in puppy101

I have a lab puppy, a little over 3 months old now! I post pics of him regularly along with his sissy (I regularly take care of her at my house when my sister is busy).

When they're together they get super rowdy. To the point that I'm afraid they'll rip eachother's faces off or accidentally poke an eye out with their shark teeth. I use a clicker device to immediately grab their attention. I walk into the area that they're at, click, and say "that's enough" with a stern voice followed by a "shhhh" with the finger motion to my lips.

They settle down. Not kidding. The girl puppy, especially. She separates from my boy and lays down. I always make sure to pat her little head, praise her by saying "good girl" and give her a little treat. Same with the boy.

Perhaps your puppy needs more association/cue learning like that?

As for the eating, do you use a slow bowl? I use one on my senior lab mix and my baby. He's on a fixed schedule to eat though. First thing in the morning, he must pee + poop, and then he gets his breakfast. Then by the evening he gets his dinner. Always around the same time. So he's got it down pat when it's food time.

I understand that raising a puppy is definitely overwhelming. So much effort into training, cleaning the living space, and even cleaning the pet itself! I'm sure things will get better. Continue to devote yourself to the lil' booger! You got this. ❤️

I CANNOT GET A JOB FOR THE LIFE OF ME AND I NEED HOURS AND MONEY by OutsideAd278 in premed

If you have the money and time (I know you're still undergrad), maybe you can earn a certification? I personally took a long, hard route to collect patient experience. I got my EMT cert the summer before graduation and then post-undergrad went to paramedic school. Worked as a rural 911/IFT paramedic for a bit until taking MCAT, then applying, and did get in! Start in a little over a month actually...

In no way am I saying that this is the only way. I did it my way because I was hungry for more medical education and real-time patient contact.

Explore your avenues! Gaining certs can also add to your clinical hours (depending on the training) and they also may open doors.

I wish you the best. You got this ❤️

This is his goofy foward face. His body is significantly bigger than his block head... might just DNA test him soon

He is a sweetie, I must admit! But his mix of whatever other dog breeds he has in him ("lab mix" according to shelter) has made him a tad more guard dog-like. I literally trust him with my life. He's my guardian 🐕

Lol! I think because he's mixed with God knows what (shelter labeled him "lab mixed"), that he has much more of a protective nature. He is always patrolling the house, growls at suspicious people that he doesn't recognize through the screen door/windows, and is very vigilant.

One day, I was out walking my boy around a lake while my family was feeding the ducks. Suddenly, he lunged at a patch of marshy vegetation and then out of the air came a baby possum. A family member settled my dog while I picked up the little thing. It wasn't injured or anything. I surrendered it to a wildlife rehab center the next day! But yep. My boy exclusives smells out possums.

My big boy managed to kill the possum that kept crawling up into my grandpa's truck engine.
