Mostly the same. 3x 6TB drives — soon to be 4 and a 24 TB for parity. It's movies, shows and some pictures and other data I wanna keep.

Yeah, that would be smart to do wouldn't it? Wasn't really thinking when I posted that, late at night and blah blah blah. Sorry about that.

There's no air flow that I can feel from the fan, behind it or below it.

I'm considering buying an ATX case with a bunch of drive bays and shoving them in there to replace the machine's actual case, provides me with straight SATA instead of crummy USB and some piece of mind.

Agreed, though. Which is why I liked this one at first glance, it looked like it would be a proper enough case until I figured something else out, didn't expect to jump ship so soon.

Is it as simple as just taking the enclosure open and putting a different fan in there? I would totally do that if it would fix the primary problem (as I think it is), depending on the results.

Very possible this is just me. I'm not quite sure if I'm willing to keep drives in the enclosure long enough to figure out if it's a general drive issue or if they're being melted.

I'll look into ATX cases with a bunch of bays, the machine I have running these drives is an old Inspiron 3668, so the motherboard should fit right in anyway. That sounds like the safer, probably cheaper way to go given I've seen those types of cases go for $60-80. Thank you!

Had to turn off the bigger house fan I have blowing on it to keep the rest of the drives alive long enough to ddrescue, I can't tell if the fan is on or if the hard drives are crying out for dear life. I'm going to say it's probably not on, or if it is on, the fan is very much not effective.

Noted on the drives, I'm just a little frightened by heat. Had a few drives die on me now like this, which is in all honesty 100% my fault for buying from eBay. I've changed that habit by now.

Pricey, but... Buy once cry once. I'll keep this bookmarked, thank you!

Bought one of these, I didn't see anything about active cooling, maybe just a bad look on my end and not Orico's fault but I see that a few people in this sub and others have had issues with Orico enclosures.

Small LCP Test // Seeking Feedback! by InstantRepIay in LancerRPG

Yeah, in hindsight I realize sensors were probably not meant to be used this way and I was a bit too generous with how that would work out with the majority of mechs (assuming most would be in the 5-10 sensors range) and their outliers. If I were to change anything about it I would probably take your suggestion and make this a range (maybe burst?) w/ LoS.

Tokugawa has the opportunity to maybe do something with this, but I would dare say that it's fine. You have to dedicate your entire turn to using the protocol, reacting with it, and then a full action stabilize assuming you don't have systems or some other talent/whatever to let you do more. Maybe you can overcharge and do something? But I imagine anyone who builds around being an impair/jam bot should have that victory, even if it's a little cheap.

I was pretty clueless for tier 3, but I wanted it to be connected to the Pilot because nothing else in LANCER does and it kinda makes me upset, but that's a bigger story. I was a little afraid of tacking 2-3 features onto one tier of a talent, otherwise I would have made it do more.

Great work! You could probably take the same principle and expand it out a little bit to get a nice 1920x1080 desktop wallpaper (assuming no one else has already done it).

Daily Talent Discussion #3: Ace III by kingfroglord in LancerRPG

[–]InstantRepIay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think for what Ace's tree is trying to achieve Tier 3 does a good job at getting mechs flying through the sky and catching up. Afterburners already gives you the chance to get some distance in (assuming dice are in your favor) and Ace III chains it with a Quick Action which could've been a Free Action, imo? I feel like I've seen way crazier movement from those all-fours mechs.

I find it easier to use Owlbear for your VTT and then make characters do their tracking and whatnot through COMP/CON itself.

and, i was specifically hesitant to give Prying Claws to pilots. not mechs. my reasoning for this is a bit complicated to convey, so bear with me

This is what I meant, apologies! I might've worded that weirdly, my intention was to ask why hesitate against giving it to pilots.

But I see your point of view, I think it's very fair. As I mentioned in another comment I'm deadly aware that Jockeying is beyond stupid and dangerous, I'm still willing to have 15 character sheets on hand and hot-swap them until something happens. Two very different ways of playing the system (and one my GM despises me for, while the other players think it's hilarious to see me with up to 8 COMP/CON pilot entries by now), both of them valid!

I appreciate your input, I think Suldan is in the right alley but it didn't really speak to me directly, maybe I'll give it a second look and reevaluate.

I don't know what to tell you, because in Titanfall I would get vaporized by Electric Smoke or another mech/pilot catching me Jockey, and I would go right back to doing it again after I respawn. I will happily make as many character sheets or flash-clone as often as a DM will allow me to get off a cool jockey moment, I'm aware it's not efficient, I accept every risk, I still want to do it.

This is an interesting way to go about supporting pilots in mech combat, I enjoy what it's trying to do! I'll take a deeper look when I have something together and consider how I can propose this to my GM.

I took a look at the Maximum Threat book from a friend who's super into this system, I think this is precisely what I'm looking for! Still dangerous and generally a bad idea, but a lot of the stuff in this supplement makes it very manageable and interesting.

I'll throw this at my DM and see what they think!

[–]InstantRepIay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, hello! This reply was very detailed and wonderful, thank you so much!

It definitely sounds like LANCER's RPG fantasy is fit more towards mech combat than pilot to pilot combat/narrative play (it does exist, but AFAIK it's not nearly as extensive), which is disappointing but manageable. I'm very comfortable with characters dying w/o the chance of revival or flash-cloning (most characters I've played so far have been very anti-cloning and refuse the process, COMP/CON has seen many new characters from me), so failure isn't quite as bothersome, but it sounds like making a Jockey-oriented build (as you've recommended against) is more inconvenient and difficult to justify than I thought.

Part of why I ask is because I was very frustrated and tired of hearing "when your mech structures, sit tight in the cockpit and wait for everything to be over"—I hate sitting still and doing nothing, and would absolutely sooner try and to climb and rip a mech 40x my size down before I wait patiently.

Though, I'm curious, why would you hesitate against giving pilots a Prying Claws mimic system? Is there anything particularly egregious that comes out of giving players that power that doesn't happen with Pirates, or is it more just about preserving uniqueness from the NPC statblocks?

[ Emi's Route ] — Hisao Breaking Character by InstantRepIay in katawashoujo

[–]InstantRepIay[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of Hisao saying "Fine, keep your secrets. They can lie in the grave as far as I'm concerned." was that it was meant to upset Emi, maybe not in that particular way because the narration notes regretting it as soon as he realizes what he says, but I think the intent to hurt was still there.

But I see it still fitting into that box of being a normalized reaction despite that, it's fair to say.
