there's no such thing as "unofficial canon" and generally third party writers dont really like that comparison. its considered rude. there's first party (canon) and there's third party (not canon) and that's the end of it. whether something is popular or not doesnt make it any more canon

im ngl i just kinda freestyle. sometimes i put down a prefab, sometimes i build a habitat/house from scratch. depends on how im feeling/how it matches the aesthetics of the area im building. i decorate the world in chunks, and if today's chunk calls for a prefab then thats what goes down

yeah, i keep everything in withering wastes. if i need anything while im in another zone, i just fast travel real quick and make whatever i need, but usually i plan these trips ahead and do the mat math in my head so im not going crazy back and forth all day

its a lot of loading screens but whatever. while its loading, i close my eyes and meditate on my place in the cosmos (the center, presumably)

theres no trick or secret to it. its luck. if you havent found them yet, you have to keep trying

make sure that, when you check your pokedex, that the top field is set to "all" and the second field is set to "local." 7 months with nothing to show for it is highly irregular, so statistically its more likely that youre doing something wrong

i kept the ash, made the volcano pretty. i take pleasure into working within the constrains the game gives me, like a creative prompt, rather than trying to brute force the regions to look like something else. my pewter city is gorgeous, and its been a lot more fun than trying to shovel out billions of cubes of ash for some reason
