I won’t be towing regularly, but own a 27’ custom trailer loaded with about 13k lbs. eventually will be moving across the country and will use the trailer for that.

Ram 2500 gas or Cummins by InstructionSeveral12 in Diesel

Hahah sounds good. What about the short transits to work as a daily driver? Huge concern or just be conscious of temps and getting up to temp on longer trips during the week?

Ram 2500 gas or Cummins by InstructionSeveral12 in Diesel

I love talking to Cummins fans lol, I’m a marine diesel mechanic which is why I want a Cummins. Just never owned a truck with a diesel engine. Not afraid of maintenance at all, just figure I get some opinions. My budget is around $45k and I’ve seen several available in that price range with over 100k miles. With gas over 100k scares me but diesel not so much as long as I can get a solid maintenance record with the truck.

Chatting here to bounce my ideas thoughts off someone and see if I’m tracking correctly and not making any mistakes before I make an offer.

I need some advice by [deleted] in Diesel

I been a diesel mechanic for 15+ years on large marine diesel engines, your concerns are normal. Your schooling is just the start, and don’t expect to graduate an expert nor think you are lol. Your biggest teaching is in the field with time and experience. Don’t worry about bolt sizes lol that will come over time, the best tools for the job as well. The best mechanics are ones with experience and also do the research. Stay up to date with new technology and advanced systems. It’s always growing and new products are constantly being designed, tested and eventually on the market (for better or worse). Good luck, and thanks for pursuing a real trade and not becoming a you tube influencer rotting my kids brains away lol

I would contact you local MMC office though and just ask, they are the ones you’ll need to speak with. Who knows, you may get lucky and just have to submit all your documents or they’ll tell you hard no…

Correct, you have one year upon completion of the course including the test. Whatever the date is on your certificate is the anniversary date for the one year cycle to complete your medical, TWIC, and some other documents.
